a little jogging success...

I started doing some martial arts in late july. Before when I tried jogging, I would try to walk for two minutes at 3.5 mph, then jog for one at 5.0 mph. I would only last 15 minutes before I was dead tired. I would only burn 150 calories

Yesterday I tried doing some jogging again after my workout. I did the same two minute warm up, but i moved up to 2 minutes jogging at 6.0 mph. I did this for 16 minutes. I burned 200 calories.

Its a small increase, but its an increase and thats a bit of a self esteem booster for me.

Way to go! You are getting more fit. That is so awesome!

I have always wanted to jog but never could. I tried C2K a few weeks ago and did not make it trough Day 1. But now, I can jog 6+ of a 30 minute walk. I am adding small increments each time I walk.

Here's to you and your success.:drinker:

everybody is different, and expect success with these gradual increases. don't forget your warm up and cool down and some stretches once you're about 5 minutes warmed up. Good luck!
  • I got to the point earlier this year when I was walking fast enough that I actually started jogging down hill. Unfortunately that also messed up me knee. Perhaps I'll try jogging again next year after more weight loss and more recovery time. So I'll keep on walking and riding till then.

Thats awesome--keep up the great work. Have you looked into tryinig the C25K program ---it builds you up in runny by doing intervals and getting your body used to more running over time.

Keep it up! When I started jogging I couldn't even make it a minute without feeling like I was going to die, but I did it in increments like you are, breaking up the jogging with walking and now I can run for 30 minutes straight! It takes some time, but it's sooo worth it! You're doing awesome!

I found the same, started trying to do couch to 5k in April but really struggled going over a minute running. Signed up for karate classes with the children at the same time, 3 months down the line I tried running again and can run 5k without stopping. (albeit pretty slowly!)

that's awesome! i started jogging in place this summer. if it was too hot then i'd do it in my living room, but other times in my backyard, simply for the fact that i was embarassed and didn't want people to see me huffing and puffing if i tried to actually jog a distance. i don't know my mph, and was just going along to the songs as they came along.
the first time i tried to jog at the park near me, (which is great because they have a marker for each 1/4 mile.. one complete lap is 2 miles), i barely made it 1/4 a mile before i was ready to collapse.. i kept at it, and once i realized it wasn't a race..... last week i was able to (slowly) jog the whole 2 miles! i've been doing turbo jam for almost a month now, which i feel has def helped as well.
