I would first use these links to figure out your BMR and your daily caloric needs
BMR: http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/
Daily Caloric Needs: http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/harris-benedict-equation/
Whatever number you get, you should subtract about 20% and thats what you should be eating to lose weight. All the info is on that website.
As for what foods to eat....
I love greek yogurt, spinach and other leafy greens, whole grain breads/pastas but in small amounts, lean proteins like chicken, turkey, fish...
My diary is open if you want to take a look for some ideas.0 -
Don't buy into the low carb fad. You need carbs for energy. Just make sure your carbs are complex and not refined. Whole grains, brown rice and fruit.0

I'm doing low carbs and am in ketosis. Ketosis happens when your body burns all of your carbs as energy and then starts producing ketones in order to burn fat as energy. I get about 70 grams of carbs per day from fruits and vegetables, and the diet is working really well. I have a plan to carefully reincorporate complex carbs back into my diet in maintenance phase. I know that I'll probably get a verbal lashing for posting this, but this IS what's working for me and a few of my friends. One of my friends has been in maintenance phase for over a year and hasn't gained anything back once she started reintroducing carbs. So, I wish you luck in your weightloss journey!0

Eat what you like, just stay at a defecit. I am 5'6 (5'7 on a good day) and started at a higher weight than you, but I when I reached the 150's 1500 calories worked wonders for me. I am now 137 and 1500 a day still works for me to lose 1-2 lbs a week (of course it varies).
Remember to net those calories, so if you exercise and burn 500 calories, eat a total of 2000 for the day.
Good luck!0
