how to cope w/ party

Ok. Maybe I am making too much of this, but I have been challenged recently by a surfeit of parties
Mostly I have coped by choosing the lowest cal stuff, saving a few calls, extra workouts. But it is adding up and now we are invited for mojitos I know this woman. There will be drinks, cheese, nuts and some over the top desert. No good choices. I feel like not going, but I'd rather figure out what to do. If I were not stalled with weight loss right now, it might bother me less. All these #$&* people are downright skinny. Forgive my frustrated rant and give me advice if you can. Thanks.

What if you eat a healthy snack before you go to the party, eat less of the junk food then you have calories for drinks!0

Eat before you go. It might be easier to resist the treats if you have aren't hungry!0 -
Also, I think cheese and nuts are great choices to eat....not the over the top desserts though!0

Honestly I would just make sure it could fit in my day. I would know I would probably drink and eat dessert so plan for that, and workout accordingly. I would save a lot of calories for the end of the night and enjoy myself. & no don't weight the next morning bc you will be bloated. Then I would drink lots of water and eat cleaner the next few days and you will be fine! Dont let food control you, control it.
or make this http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/495462-100-calorie-cheese-cake and take it with you as a "gift: and then you can really know how much you eat0 -
Bring something yourself that you feel comfortable eating! Find a great recipe for something you could snack on or bring a ripe fruit platter. It will keep your mouth and hands busy while not feeling deprived watching everyone else snack.0

Just think (not my quote found it on line but has been very helpful) .... "you can enjoy the simple pleasures in the present, but the ultimate gift is when you sit down and say: I finally made it" Yes will power is a difficult thing, especially when there is a lot of amazing snacks at a party, that you probably don't have at home. But is one night of something you think is delicious, worth cancelling out all the work you have put in throughout the week. Good luck its not easy.0

Just make sure the rest of your day is clean calories and you should have plenty of calories left over. Make sure you eat something with a lot of protein so it stays with you when you're drinking. Don't want to have 2 or 3 drinks and then get hungry you'll eat anything and too much of it.0

drink yourself silly,
And smoke!:bigsmile:0 -
Offer to bring a dish that you know you can eat (veggie or fruit tray) or just eat before hand.0

After a big indulgence I like to do a juice or smoothie fast the next day to balance out the damage I did the night before. Especially if alcohol was involved.
I still try to get 1200 calories in, but I try to make it 80% fresh fruit and veggies.
It's summer here, and the parties are rolling around every weekend now, and sometimes even mid-week. It's all about balancing out your calories over the whole week instead of just worrying about day to day.0 -
I not of the belief that your body resets a mid-night. So if I know I have something like a party I might have lighter meals during the day or under eat the day before or after. Or I will put in more exercise the day of or around the event. You can also set your goal for maintenance for that day.0

willpower.
well you'll need it to lose weight and resist temptation0 -
For me, since I enjoy partying, I just make room for it. I drink vodka water and lime (about 67 calories per drink) and make sure I dance when possible. Its all about will power, and mostly doing what you want. If you want to join in on the party and drinking then DO IT. you are only human - you gotta have some fun. But you are an adult and if you choose not to drink or go out to the party, then so be it!0

What helps me is that I restrict myself to two nights a week out. One is a weeknight and the other is a weekend. I make sure that on these days I go for a big run and make sure that I earn the extra calories for the snacks and alcohol I know I'll be consuming. It works really well and I find that because I've gotten up early to work out, I don't stay out as late, which means I usually head home before I get too into the booze or the dreaded late night pizza fix.
Also, there's nothing wrong with bringing a veggie tray or healthier snacks to a party. I'm sure the host would appreciate it. The same goes for alcohol. Skip the sugary mojitos and try rum with mint, lime and soda water or diet Sprite maybe. I also like to alternate between a boozy drink and a water so that every second drink is calorie-free and also keeping you hydrated.0 -
Thanks. I just needed a little support and help planning. I will indeed have something with protein. That does help. Normally I would bring something, but she is one of those people who is offended if you do. I guess she'll have to be offended by my not eating her high calorie food! nuts are fine, that is true. I am not much of a drinker, so I hate spending calories on it. She won't have any substitution for the mojitos (why am I friends with her anyway? Oh yeah, my husband's colleague) I will claim to be designated driver! That way both my DH and I will be happy. This is actually good for me. I need to think these things through. I have about 50-60 pounds to go. Thanks again0

And thanks for the cheesecake recipe...next party. They are coming fast and furious as summer peaks.0

Be a wonderful guest and bring a great plate of veggies and dip that you (and I bet some others) will dig into.
Drink water or bubbly water and then one drink early and one later if you feel like it.
Suck and chew on ice.0
