Diet food FLATULENCE - Help :(

Please help me. I have recently revamped my diet to a 1200 cal. diet of whole grains, raw fruit and veggies, lean protein, and good fats.
Shortly after doing this I developed a huge problem with flatulence. Not only is the volume of gas overwhelming... but the stench!!!
I know my coworkers in the cubicles can tell, I've heard the comments. It seems like nobody sits near me on the bus ride (I live in a city.) Plus the constant rumbling in my belly is really uncomfortable.
The other day I was in a yoga class and I had to switch to a high energy step class where the music could cover up the racket and the fans dispersed my odor.
Worst of all, I am now afraid to sleep over at my boyfriend's place because I'm sure he will break up with me. (not to mention what could happen during sex.)
Someone please help. I'm afraid to take any of those products (like that Bean stuff) 'cuz I don't want to put drugs or bad stuff in my tummy.
Please help!!!!!!!!

I had the same problem, but don't worry. It's not permanent or contageous. I'm betting it's fiber shock. If you really revamped and have upped your fiber by more than 5g a day, it may be a big shock to your system. (Kinda like drastically increasing your water take and having to pee all the time) If it's been a week or so, tough it out, you are through the worst of it. Your body will adjust, and you will have "normal" gas vs the extra frequent supa stink. If you just started, you may want to make small incramental adjustments in the fiber and see if that does more for your sex life. Hope this helps.0

Your body doesn't actually digest fiber, the helpful bacteria in your digestive track does. The byproduct of that is gas. Surround yourself with other people who eat the same diet as you. You know what they say... everyone likes their own brand.0

Oh-thank you so much-I have such relief-(haha-already!) I'll be more patient 1 Thanks!0

If you do decide you need a product - Gas-X strips work well. They melt on your tongue like a breath strip - and they're minty. Plus you can stash them very discretely in your purse, pocket, whatever.0

I have had the same problem, especially during times that I've gone super low carb and had just meat, fruits, and vegetables all day. horrible! My little brother once told me that when he and a friend went in my room to get something his friend said "it smells like cold fart in here." The horrible thing is that it was true!!! haha, horrible. Well, that's why I don't do low carb diets anymore (also I hate them). But to get over it I started taking beano and found it works really well to prevent gas and peptobismol works really well after it starts. Unfortunately, it still gets bad sometimes, but not so bad that I can't control it.
Also, stay away from excessive gum chewing! I'm a chain gummer and when I chew too much that's when the worst gas comes. So I try to quit cold turkey most of the time.
I hope that helps! Too bad eating healthy has this stinky side effect.....0 -
You may be taking in too much fiber. Also, if you're not combining food properly that will cause gas. Some foods digest at different paces and if you don't combine foods properly they can sit in your gut and putrify therefore causing gas. I suggest getting a book called Detox for Women by Natalia Rose. it is an awesome book!0

LOL sorry I know I shouldn't laugh but I forgot that in the states "cubicles" means offices whereas over in the UK it means a toilet & my first thought was what are your colleagues doing in your cubicle!:laugh:0 -

Keep eating the way you are. It will get better, but it just takes your system time to adjust. You've likely already made it through the worst part.0

Ahh, the joys of vegetables, especially cruciferous vegetables(they contain high sulfur, give you that rotten egg smell). Most vegetables contain a goodly supply of fiber, both insoluble and soluble fiber. Your body takes the insoluble fiber and mostly says “well this is useless” and sends it along its way. This lets most of it pass from your small intestine, to your large intestine. There isn’t a lot of nutrient absorption going on there, and this is where the smell producing anaerobic bacteria live. The insoluble fiber gets acted on by anaerobic bacteria which is why it can sometimes smell like a swamp.
Fear not though, your intestinal flora and fauna will eventfully adapt to it and start producing less gas. However the time can take upwards of a few months.
Bean-o isn’t really a drug per-say; it’s an extract of a mold called aspergillis niger. Now don’t freak out swallowing mold, its not mold, it’s an enzyme called Alpha-galactosidase. All it does is bust up the complex carbs as any enzyme would, so the anaerobic bacteria cant. If the anaerobic bacteria can’t use it, it doesn’t make gas.0
