So a local Dr has this diet, he will advise it for anyone, and has copies at his office.
So here it is:

Breakfast
2 eggs OR oatmeal w skim milk/ brown sugar OR protein shake ( 0.5 C skim milk, 0.5 banana, small handfull blueberries, scoop protien powder, 8 dried almonds, Tbsp ground flax seed)
OJ to take medication (see below)

Snack
low fat cheese stick OR apple OR small amt fruit

Lunch
Salad as big as your head w low fat dressing and chicken strips (NO croutons or anything high carb/fat)

Dinner
small piece fish/chicken/meat with 2 cups steamed veggies or salad.

Snack
glass of red wine and/or almonds

-splurge one meal per week within reason

Medications
Fish Oil, at least 2000mg with COLD OJ, nothing hot
Vitamin D, 1000mg
Multi B vitamin, one daily
Baby aspirin 81 mg

Any ideas or thoughts? I've heard from people that it works but I worry about the low carbs and going back to a regular diet after?

I don't really trust doctors with diet stuff unless they are qualified nutritionists as well, had some bad expieriences in past. And this looks like nothing special, you can find tons of similar stuff at internet and print it out.

If you wanna do this for losing weight then it will work. I personally would starve to death with this even when I'm trying to lose fat. Also not enough protein and fat for me. These things fills me up the most and I kinda care about building muscle so I need way more protein. Also I need more fat, was on low fat and I felt super weak and sick, hormone levels messed up, I personally need way more than this to stay strong and healthy. And I would feel super weak with so little carbs. So personally I hate something like this.

It looks like a diet for a girl or very tiny woman who does not exercise. If that's you well then it prolly will work for you. You can just try it for a while and see how it goes anyways. ^^

Sounds really low calorie. One would probably gain some weight back after returning to normal levels of eating.

Looks pretty dull and restrictive, if i ate salad every day for lunch I'd probably want to punch myself in the face.....

Far from the worst that has been posted here, but be your own skeptic and plug it all into MFP and see where it leaves you.

It seems very low cal, very boring and very low carb. I'm sure you will lose weight, but I'm not sure you want to eat that way long term.

It looks like a semi-decent starting point for someone who has zero idea how to eat well, but I agree it is probably too low calorie as-is and would be way to dull/restrictive to stick to long-term.

Thanks for the replies so far. BTW this Dr is a man and a dermatologist. When I asked him about exercise, he patted his stomach and said this works for me and I don't exericise. LOL
I may still try it for a diet jump start. Nothing else seems to be working for me :(

There's a reason why he's a dermatologist and not a Registered Dietitian. Sounds boring.

One wonders why you would ask a Skin specialist about diet and exercise.

I really recommend you put it all into MFP and see what calorie count you end up with. The only diets that can GUARANTEE weightloss for everyone are the ones very low in calories.

Could be a lot worse, then again, I have had cookies and brownies several days this week and last, in addition to a whole lot of normal food and I'm still losing.

Try it for a week or so, log it, and see how it goes. If it's too boring, move back to whatever you want to eat and just log as normal.

Sounds like you're setting yourself up for failure from the start.

I eat 1200 calories a day and eat twice as much and more and have consistently lost. I would not do this Dr. prescribed diet personally...it's just not enough food to manage on to lose and stay healthy. Too low in fat and protein as well as complex carbs.
I also do not trust MDs when it comes to diet, because their training requires only one diet related class, which imo is not enough to effectively help a wide variety of people.

Not for me. Why the baby aspirin?

The baby aspirin is to prohibit heart attacks, which are an added health risk in obese people. The US Heart Assc. recommends it for all people over 45, even those with normal BP:

Sounds fine for one day, after that, where is the variation? Imho, to sucessfully maintain a diet (used as a lifetime as opposed to temporary) there needs to be a lot of variation. Also, I disagree on the lowfat dressing. Make your own salad dressing and put as much or little oil as you want. Buying any salad dressing is a waste of money and I haven't done it in years. Making a batch takes 5 minutes and it will last at least 5 days in the fridge. Also, why would anyone recommend vegies OR salad. Both! Also, I personally don't believe everyone needs baby aspirin and I don't take it, but that would be a question for your regular doctor or your cardiologist.

I may be wrong but I don't think it is recommend it for EVERYONE over 45.
You shouldn't start daily aspirin therapy on your own in an effort to prevent a heart attack. Your doctor may suggest daily aspirin therapy if:
You've already had a heart attack or stroke
You haven't had a heart attack, but you have had a stent placed in a coronary artery, have had coronary bypass surgery, or you have chest pain due to coronary artery disease (angina)
You've never had a heart attack, but you're at high risk of having one
You're a man with diabetes older than 50, or a woman with diabetes older than 60

Although aspirin has been recommended in the past for certain groups of people without a history of heart attack, there's some disagreement among doctors about this approach. Guidelines are changing and have varied between organizations. The bottom line is that before taking a daily aspirin you should have a discussion with your doctor.

Any doctor that recommends taking vitamins without first finding out if you actually need to supplement that vitamin instantly throws up huge red flags for me.
