Walking

Went on a walk this morning with some people from my gym in lieu of class. We did 4 miles - 60 minutes - and 694 calories! (per my HRM)
Who says you can't make progress "just walking"?!
(PS, it was brisk, but now winding).

great job! I need to purchase a HRM. Are there any that you recommend? I do an incline walk on my treadmill. I set the incline to 10 and walk about 3.1 speed. I do change it during the walk to 3.5 incline and speed walk 4.0... at the end of my session (35 mintues) the treadmill indicator says i lost 400 calories and Im starting to think it is a bit off. In the end I do about 2 miles.0

General consensus on the boards is Polar. You just need to decide which model is in your budget and has the features you want.0 -
I walk everywhere. I must clock up about 30 miles every week!0

You can DEFINITELY lost weight by walking. That has been my primary exercise to date because I can walk around the college campus where I work over my lunch hour. I will need to look for some other forms of exercise going forward, since the weather will soon turn cold, but it is so nice and enjoyable when the weather is nice. Sometimes I go with my friend, and when she cannot join me, I plug in my earphones to my ipod and enjoy either great music or entertaining podcasts. It's the best.0

Yeah, i don't usually burn this much walking - usually more like 300-400 tops, but I managed to stay in my target high cardio heart rate for 45 minutes out of the hour.
I actually don't walk much, the impact hurts my back a lot and I have to drive 20 minutes to get somewhere with sidewalks. It's nice a few times a year though.
But you see posts on here all the time about people saying - all I can do is walk - is that enough? Granted, I don't just do walking, I do hardly any, but you can make a lot of health progress walking!0 -
I love walking! Great way to clear my head and get excersize while enjoying nature and sunshine. I take three 20 minute walks a day. After breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I love it, and definitly feel better about it. Keeps my metabolism moving and beats the heck out of sitting around. I am a fan of walking! It is seriously underestimated!0
