Rude GYM worker discouraged me to join GYM

hello I was thinking of joining a new gym theres a hardcore gym in my area which looks nice. The gym has a power rack and benches the whole lot. I phoned today to ask the first thing he asked was " what age are you" i said im 21 he said " are you sure" i said yes im sure then he said ok. The next question he asked was weird for me " are you strong" i replied im ok but iv not training in 3 months due to shoulder injury.

If the gym worker asks and judges people on strength I mean thats not fair im not strong does that mean im not welcome. I have never been asked this by any gym it really put me of from joining.

Not all employees are representative of their employer. I would check out the gym in person, you'll get a better read doing that than from some weird receptionist.

I'd agree with this. And if you got a different vibe there, I'd definitely ask to speak to a manager and report the odd phone call.

Devil's Advocate: Maybe the guy gets a lot of not-so-serious or prank calls or even has a jerk manager that makes him ask these questions. Sure it's a little off-putting but don't let it completely discourage you if it's something you'd really like to try. I agree with the others - stop by some time, tell them you're interested in joining and that you'd like a tour and see how that goes.

This. I would absolutely speak to a manager & report. Kinda crappy that the guy has probably "inadvertently" turned a lot of people trying to better themselves away.

Maybe he was just seeing what your interest in the gym was? There's a gym near me that is solely devoted to powerlifting and training for competitions. If you have no plans to compete, you can't use the gym. Maybe they have a similar thing going and you just happened to catch the guy while he was PMSing. Check out the gym in person, like someone else suggested and see if it's what you're interested in.

Pssssssh! Forget that hater gym worker. Don't let his lack of customer service skills steer you away from going if you want. He probably got out benched or something and was feeling salty about it, and you caught his bruised ego's response.
