Losing weight...not feeling so great

Hi All,
Wondering if anyone is going through the same thing... I've lost 12 pounds since I started MFP in mid April. I'm 5'6 and and currently 140lbs. I'm in a size 6..sometimes 4 (!!) and feel great dressed. I'm super confident and feel like I look better than ever in clothes....but when I'm naked or in a bathing suit I've never felt so self conscious. Last summer I was 10lbs heavier and felt more confident in a bikini than I do now. Has anyone felt this way?? Why don't I feel better about myself after losing 12 pounds?! Any help/motivation/encouragement/relation is appreciated. Thanks!
Emma

Hello my lovely friend,
Believe it or not, I know just how you feel. The healthier I eat, the leaner I become and the more muscle tone I develop, the more I focus on my flaws.
My lower stomach still leaves me feeling awful about myself, as do my love handles and weak/flabby arms. When I eat something I normally wouldn't, I can really beat myself up about it. I try to remind myself that all of this is a process, but I have days where I look in the mirror and think, "You have so much work left to do. You're not trying hard enough. You are still so unattractive"
I think it's a natural reaction to be one's toughest critic, but we have to mentally remind ourselves to not be too mean. Easier said than done, I know. Just this morning when I was getting dressed for work I thought to myself, "Andrea, your stomach is just gross." I had to make a concious effort to not harp on it and fight the urge to squeeze, poke and over-analyze the flab.
The best advice I can give is when you feel yourself venturing down the negative path, focus on something you DO feel good about. You can also focus on your plans to "perfect" the areas you are less than pleased with, but focus on your game plan and not on your negative thoughts.
Sending much love and hugs!

I have the same problem i feel GREAT in clothes, but naked oh my god dont even talk about it.
I think it boils down to this when you are losing weight you are very focused on your body. You focus on what you put into it, what you can make it do at the gym, and how it is changing. That's the key its changing so of course it will feel a bit alien to you now.
I am starting to think about maintenance since i am almost at my goal weight and hoping that having my body be a static weight for a while will help me feel better about how much it has changed and get used to my fabulous new form.
good luck to you!
And your beautiful!

I find that for every five pounds i lose, the worse my tummy and love handles look. For some reason, I don't lose weight evenly; like, right now, I'm losing it on my thighs and upper gut, maybe two inches on my hips...which makes my exact-same-size gut stick out even more. The last time i lost weight, my butt looked nice 20lbs down, but was misshapen 45lbs down.0

I go through it too. I am 5' 6" and am at 155, trying to get to 147. I have just started feeling a little better since i walk over 5 milez a day and my body is startihg to tighten up more (I actually have defination in my bye-bye arms). My stomach is still loose but i have noticed more inches gone. I now praise myself every day for being able to continue moving forward. No more negativity for me. Thank you mfp and fitbit flex, they have made me challenge myself. Think positive, it does wondrs.0

Are you exercising? I know exactly how you feel. I've got that lower tummy "pooch." When I carry a little extra weight, my tummy looks flatter. When I start losing, my waist (I'm high waisted) gets smaller, but that "pooch" stays the same. It looks disproportionate.0
