Hi guys,
I just wanna share sth that struck me!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:World_map_of_Energy_consumption_2001-2003.svg
It presents a map where it's shown how many calories per DAY each country consumes on average.
Looks like my daily allowance of 1490 is equaling most poorest African countries.
Isn't it horrible to see that vast majority of the world eats much more than 2500 per day??
I live in Belgium and obesity is a problem of 40% of population but there are so many people in this country that simply DO NOT CARE what they see in a mirror!
Similar opinions anyone?

I opened that expecting to see America in the highest category (and wasn't disappointed), but Greece, Italy, some country NE of Italy that I'm too lazy to look up on a map, Portugal, Ireland and France too at more than 3,600 calories per day? Wow. And this was 10 year ago.
Edited to add: Okay, I looked it up - sorry, Austria.0 -
Yay! The US is number 1 at 3770 average cals per day!!!
Doesn't surprise me. What WAS surprising is how far down the list Samoa was. Their ave cals were only 2880. That doesn't sound right to me.
And since Mexico passed us for number one in Obesity rates, I would have thought their cal level would have been up there with us.
BTW I clicked on the link to 'List of countries by food consumption'

Oh I see - the numbers are based on *available* calories from total food production, so it would make sense that the richest countries have the highest available number of calories.0

Wow...I had no idea my country would be so high..0
