How do you get moving, really moving?

I am so sadly not getting out and exercising, not even the walk around the truck stop parking lot. Let's not go to WHY that is, it just is.

Question my dedication if you must, as I myself do when I have very little exercise and each day I go without it will get worse.

Getting a pet is the best idea I had, yet this scenario is not really falling in place, yes I even went to 4 shelters , but nothing chose me as they human, I do look pretty scary at times to a little doggie, they may think I want to eat them, just kidding. I may find the right dog soon, but will not settle for a bad dog. Excuse, maybe but... it is what it is.

Motivation, it seems to be there inside me, but not too strongly, but I am currently about to be scheduled to see a bariatric intake appointment I was told, and my doc said they have counseling , so iff I am covered, BIG IF, THIS MAY HELP ME . I will go, if covered, as I can not afford it otherwise.

anyone have a magic motivation trick to share, or magic food that gets you moving, not a magic drug like on , "Breaking Bad", which would most likely get me moving, but then my teeth , the ones left may fall out, not cool.

I see so many on here doing runs and elliptical machines, which I can not do for 2 minutes they do for 1-2 hrs, damn. WIll I ever get to there, maybe, if I can overcome this dang depression holding me back. Guess not too many are praying for me, as I know prayers do work, and those who are , thank you.

ooops gotta run

I just started up again. On my 'non-sports' days I NEVER want to work out, I would rather sit on the couch and watch a movie. But I just try and think of that high I get after a good workout.

And as far as your level, do your best and you will improve. I just started back up with P90X (I've been through it twice in the last several years.) I couldn't do as many push ups as I used to, -when I would hit the 90 day mark. I just kept trying, finally my arms literally shook and gave out and had to fast forward! -Keep moving, find something you enjoy. I Love volleyball and found some places to play.

    -cheerleader says- Keep Going!

I wouldn't be very sprightly trying to carry around an extra 300 lbs. Just move the amount you can. Changing intake will drop the weight to a level you can handle better, and moving will be much easier.

If you have netflix, or a computer with internet, there is a documentary called "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead". Its very easy to find... and it is AWESOME. This may help.

Also.. you can add friends on here to help with motivation.

I have an account on Pinterest and browse the Health & Fitness section and it gets me motivated a lot.

Feel free to add me as a friend and if you ever need any advice I will gladly help you out in any way that I can :)

Forget about the folks on the ellipticals doing insane workouts. You have to just move. I started out just picking a mailbox at the end of my driveway. Commited everyday to doing it. Over time I gradually increased the distance. Now I regularly hike 6 miles 3-4 days a week. I live in the Sierra so it ain't a walk in the park. My fitbit tells me I am climbing 65 flights of stairs.

Commit yourself to a very short distance every day. That is your priority, before everything else. Do it every single day, increase distance over time. Don't kill yourself, just move, speed is not important. Small doable goals have more chance of success, than overreaching and overwhelming goals.

    Good luck...move!

PS. I'm not a youngster, 55 years old and have dropped nearly 60 pounds.

Exercise is the best nautral antidepressent!! Everyone has to start some where. Marathon runners didn't just leave the house one day and run 26.2 miles. They trained and they ran and they had bad days but they didn't give up.

You just have to start and build from there. Even if you can only take a 5 minute walk today, that's great. Take a 6 minutue walk tomorrow!

There is no wrong place to start a exercise program. You just have to buckle down and start.

    Goold luck!

what worked best for me was getting someone else to encourage me

and I just MAKE myself get off the computer and go do something, it's hard, but I do it, because being fat is hard too- make a list of all the reasons you want to lose weight and when you are struggling with food or laziness (I am lazy too, so don't be offended by that) take that list out and read it

My low point was in April 2011. I went to a school event with my daughter and could hardly walk to the door. I had to stop several times, and once inside I had to sit on the floor because I was so heavy and out of shape. I decided then that something had to change. I went to see a bariatric surgeon to see about getting a lap-band. I was told I'd need to lose 90 pounds before they'd do it. They also said to focus more on food intake and get some of the weight off first (before worrying about exercise) so the joints wouldn't hurt so much. The set me up to see their dietician and to get an appointment with a therapist. March 29 of this year I had the excess skin/fat removed from my belly (26 pounds worth) because I had lost about 115 pounds then.

Unfortunately, I backslid for about 3 months and put on 30 pounds for a variety of reasons, of which only maybe 1 was *slightly* valid.

Anyway - here I am....for the last 3 weeks I've been easing myself back into the game, and lost 3.4 pounds last week, and yesterday/today, I've been ON IT. (By the way - I never did end up getting the lap-band. Haven't ruled it out, but not quite ready to do it since I've had a reasonable amount of success so far.)

I know I'm doing so much better - I feel so much better.

Focus on making smart steps in the right direction. Drink more water. Focus more on the protein and fiber intake. It doesn't matter how much you move as long as you do in fact move. (Saying I heard on Dr. Oz: "Sit less, move more". Any movement at all is good.)

Before I started MFP, I was walking my rat terrier at least a half mile a day, sometimes a mile. She demanded it and I am thankful for it.

I don't think there is a magic slogan that will send you on a nice walk, except that I always remind myself I have to do for myself what I can and God will do the rest (by faith). I have to get up and move, even if it is slow. The first step is the only one that you will struggle to take. The rest will come natural.

On choosing a dog, if you choose a terrier mix, you will be moving. They are easily trainable, loving and loyal; and, they look so happy when they are walking that it radiates. My Daisy looks like a kid at Disney World every time we take our walk. It makes me smile and/or chuckle. I even make myself go out with her when it is crazy hot or crazy cold outside.

Next time you go to the animal shelter, put some bacon in your pocket. Everybody will love you.

Just move. I read a book about weight loss. The author said she had children and no money so she just walked. At first, she could only make it to the corner and back, but after a few days, she moved further and further.

I thought if she could do it, so could I. At my heaviest, I was over 300lbs. I couldn't walk very far. I needed the railing to go up the stairs and I could only bend my right leg, one step at a time. My first walk ever was seven minutes round trip. But I did it again and again. Now, I walk, ride my bike, take exercise classes and I run up the stairs.

Start slow, you don't want to hurt yourself, but start. Just move a little and do a little more tomorrow. Eat healthy and don't starve yourself, you'll feel better and have more energy from the healthy eating. That will make you want to move a little more. Look at it like a snowball, it starts small but gets bigger the more you roll it around.

Good luck to you in your weight loss journey. I know you can do it.

Find some good shoes, some good socks, and start walking. I was recovering from some injuries last year, and I started a walking program. There is a lake nearby that is 1.25 miles around. I had the worst time getting around that lake the first time I went around. Now I take a walk down to the lake, go around it two or three times (time permitting), and clock in three to five miles several times a week.

I have wide feet, and had the worst time finding shoes. I finally went online and found a place that sold them online and from their store. Furthermore, their prices were very reasonable for top-end shoes. If you want to know more, friend me, and I will send you the information.

I think the dog thing is due to your lack of self confidence. Dogs will be attracted to you if you show them love and attention. They don't care how much you weigh. Try again but only if you feel you can give a dog the love and attention it deserves. Dogs in shelters have often had a horrible life and deserve to be well looked after. If you're only getting one to get you exercising then you need to think of another motivation. If you really want one- despite the work and responsibility they require- you will never regret it.

    Thank You all

I guess I just need to Man Up.

    Get up and do it.

    Thanks
  • Yesterday, I got a bike to start moving. I take very short rides ( it's only been 2 days) - I ride it to the mail box, the leasing office, or to take out the trash. In the future, I will venture out of my apartment complex to the sidewalk or a park. I figure a little everyday is okay for now.
I don't think of it as exercise, per se, i think of it as a fun means of traveling.

One of the best tips I can give you is not to rely on your own motivation, because it obviously hasn't been working too well up to this point. Find someone else who will help motivate you. Make plans to meet up with a friend of a similar fitness level for a walk. It's harder not to go when you're letting someone else down.

Me I looked at a bike, and I am too big for a bike, but someday I will not be.

Yes this is what I been trying to say, but have been unable to find anyone willing to be the friend who will drag me with them.

    Thank You

    I will keep looking

Just do it. That's all. No hidden info required, just get your *kitten* moving!!!

I forced myself to workout 5 days a week and after the first 2-3 weeks, I craved that exercise. Today, I resist rest days. I feel I need to move. It's hard in the beginning - you will feel tired and sore, but force yourself.

    I don't stop when I'm tired. I stop when I'm done. =))

    Good luck!

I saw this and it makes sense
Being fat is hard and Being fit is hard choose your hard.
It must be so hard to just do everyday chores or routines carrying around lots of extra weight..
I can honestly tell you that being fit is probably the greatest feeling you will ever have.
Just keep moving at frist and then find an exercise you enjoy and do that. Then find
    another and do them both.
