I am off to a body pump class this evening, is it a good class to do? What should I expect, I'm always so nervous doing something new.

There a 15 min into class before hand which I shall also attend.

I love bodypump! If you're a newb go early, get light weights to begin with if you’re not a lifter and talk to people. You get a good feel of a class by speaking to the other ladies/gents

Usually goes, with variations of course...

5 minute stretch and warm up
    Barbell lunges
    Hack squats
    Chest press
    Tricep extensions
    Shoulder press
    Barbell bicep curls
    Crunches with plate
    Reverse side crunches
5 minute stretch and cool down

Some classes add a few cardio intervals in, some don’t. Enjoy!

I've done these classes several times. Just make sure you don't load on the weight the first class or you won't go back :) A couple of the 2nd biggest plates should be good and then for your squats, add the smallest one just for a little more resistence.

The way the classes go here (if I remember correctly)

    -warm up
    -squats
    -chest
    -clean and press
    -biceps
    -triceps
    -lunges
    -shoulders
    -abs
    -cooldown

Remember that this is not based on weight it's based on max reps. If the weight is too heavy, you won't be able to get through all the reps and the last 'sequence' is the most important and where you really have to push yourself. It is fun and a full body workout.

    Good luck :)
  • It took me a few months to get up the nerve to go to BP classes. I'd never done ANY strength training before, didn't know a damn thing about it, and "ohhh my gosh look at all the fit people that go to BP and look at all of that equipment!" GO! I finally one day got up the nerve to go and I'm so glad I did. I LOVE it :) I still don't put a lot of weight on my bar but I'm putting more and more on slowly, and I love feeling my long-abandoned muscles tremble and work.

Get there early. Tell the instructor you're new. Start light. Relax. Give it 2 or 3 classes. If it's not for you, then it's not for you but at least you tried it.
  • Bodypump ROCKS! up the weights, that's the key to a high calorie burn and you feel awesome after it!
