I have been following this for a week now, and am excercising twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening, I'm drinking lots of water and really watching my food intake. Trying to eat mostly high protein, low calorie, low carb foods, and have not lost a single pound. I do drink beer but I'm under my calorie goal everyday, plus I'm working out. I don't understand why I haven't lost any weight yet. I worked in a gym for 4 years so all of this is not new to me and the tools have been very helpful and I am tracking everything that goes into my mouth. Any suggestions???

Give it a few weeks. Take your measurements. Give yourself grace for this process!

maybe you are converting your fat to muscle depending on how much you have to lose. i have the problem of losing two or three then i weigh more than i started with in a week. thats the answer i got when i asked about it, so maybe that helps.

I agree to give it a few weeks. It always takes a few weeks for me to start losing weight.
  • I had the same complaint my first week on MFP. Acutally, I think I gained 2 lbs that week. I was working out every day, too. The week after, I lost 2 lbs. It does happen! You just have to give it some time. Your body is just adjusting to what you're doing.

I will say, though, that beer won't help your cause no matter how much you work out. It will dehydrate you and make you keep on the pounds. Try to cut it out for a while. It will be worth it. I just started on MFP at the end of July and I'm down 11 lbs!

Sounds like you are working out alot. It could be that you are gaining muscle so it doesn't seem like you are losing weight. Also, when I first started my diet, I didn't lose weight for the first week and it was frustrating as heck. Stick with it and I'm sure you will see results. BTW, I also find it helpful to take my measurements every two weeks. If I haven't lost weight, there is usually a reduction in inches and that helps keep me focused.
    Good luck!

Make sure you eat the calories you burn from exercise or you'll end up starving yourself and holding onto weight. Measure yourself also. My wife lost inches of her waist and hips before she dropped her first pound.

I would worry more about your measurements than your weight. I would also give it a little bit of time. One week is not a lot of time.

If you have started to record your diet at the same time as working out then you won't see a reduction in weight loss as working out will increase muscle weight, cut down on the exercise and you may see a weight loss. You maybe overdoing it!!

Make sure your calorie count is accurate. If a serving is 1/2 cup, then make sure you really only eat 1/2 cup. One cup will halfway fill up a normal cereal bowl. A lot of items, I actually eat 2 servings. After measuring food for a week or two, you get a feel for it. I was surprised that my small, Ikea wine glasses held 8 ounces. I was putting down 1 serving of wine (5 ounces). You could just be eating too much and not know it. Also, do not over estimate the calories that you burn by exercising. My one hour bike rides burn 390 calories according to MFP but only 90 calories using my monitor.

Weight loss = calories in - calories out.

You do need to stay hydrated. Your body needs water to break down fat for energy. It will not break down fat until you have used up your glycogen reserves.
  • Thank you for all the helpful hints. I am definately drinking plenty of water, usually at least 12 glasses a day. And I'm pretty sure I am using the right measurments for the food although I haven't been weighing or measuring but I will start doing that more too. I haven't measured myself at all, but will do that too. I'm sure I do just need to give it more time, maybe by next week I will start seeing some results. Anybody know how to add the ticker thing at the bottom that shows my weight, and my goals?

This same thing happened to me. I didnt lose weight until week three. But in week three I lost 9 lbs. (almost like it all hit me at once)

Maybe get even stricter on your diet. I cut all processed foods out of the picture. I prepare meals on Sunday for the week and put them in separate containers so I can just grab it.

and if your really serious, give up the beer (at least at first) I had a serious starbucks addiction that I had to give up in order to really see the scale move.
try upping your water and putting in organic lemon juice. It can boost your metabolism by 33%

    good luck!
