Lately I've had it with chocolate chips, almonds and coconut. But I'm just not that fond of oatmeal!

I blend steel cut oats in my smoothie everyday. I like the crunch of it. Sometimes I mash it up and then put it in the blender. Plain old oatmeal doesn't bother me.

I don't find it boring. I have it with a scoop of protien powder. Or "proatmeal" - got the idea from back when I did INSANITY, as it's in the elite nutrition book that comes with the kit.

It's pretty interesting really, as i'll be getting strawberry oats or chocolate. If i'm having it without protein I usually have a teaspoon of agave nectar in it. I really don't get bored of it.

I don't eat this often, but I LOVE steel cut oats soaked overnight (1 cup oats to 4 cups 1% milk makes a large batch)...then cooked on the stovetop with a little bit of brown sugar and cinnamon at the end. Sometimes we add Craisins. It's more of a treat breakfast, but still good for you.

Chocolate Peanut Butter whey protein powder + banana = awesomeness.

Vanilla whey protein powder + berries (whatever you have) + banana (sometimes, sometimes not).

I'm not a big breakfast eater, usually only eating some fruit, but I'll often have oatmeal for dinner. I bake it, and I make all sorts of variations, from traditional sweet and fruity, to savory and "meat"loafy (I'm vegan), to...Well, pizza-like. Seriously, I mix oats with pizza sauce and stuff you'd put on a pizza, including (for me) vegan cheese, toss it in the oven for half an hour, and it's like pizza in a bowl. Here's a good "starter" for more traditional baked oatmeal, if you've never had it: http://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/2010/11/11/check-out-my-oatmeal-cake/

I grind mine up in a coffee grinder a little so I can have a smoother texture. Vanilla Almond milk, ground flaxseed, nutmeg and towards the end I add a scoop of whey protein vanilla powder with water and I enjoy with a Strawberry/Blueberries topping.

If I'm bored with it then I just eat it really fast lol. You don't really need to chew it and can swallow down a serving in just a few gulps.

I use quick cooking steel cut oats (they cook in 7 minutes) cooked in water.

3/4 cup cooked steel cut oats (this is 1/4cup uncooked oats)
1/2 cup almond or coconut milk
    1/2 blueberries or strawberries
    1/3 a banana
    cinnamon
    1Tbl sliced or chopped nuts
*sometimes chocolate chips (good with strawberries)

    Sometimes
topped with sugar free cherry pie filling, chocolate chips and sliced almonds. (in the winter when fresh berries aren't available and I run out of frozen blueberries).

I had never liked oatmeal and just started eating it about a year ago. I can only enjoy the steel cut oats, I can't stand the texture of rolled oats. I bought a feed size bag of organic steel cut oats directly form Bob's Red Mill. So it's been great. This has really helped me with maintaining my blood sugar and as I tend to get hypoglycemic.

    Raspberries and vanilla
    Apples, cinnamon, and raisins
    Cranberries
    Cocoa powder and sugar
    Bananas and peanut butter

Or go the savory route and try cheese and black pepper! :)

    With a spoon.
  • With a spoon.

+1 for the most technically accurate answer.

I can use a cupped hand in a pinch, but the oatmeal has too cool a bit first :)

Right now, I'll add a scoop of strawberry protein powder and I'll break up an overripe banana into chunks and eat it mixed in.

I make the oatmeal with a dash of cinnamon and 1 cup water, after it is cooked I add in blueberries, blackberries and raspberries, 1/4 cup milk and 1/2 scoop of vanilla protein powder, YUMMY!!!
  • I use instant plain, I use water but I add either blackberries or raspberries with Cinnamon. That hold me to mid morning when I have a greek yogurt for a bost of protein

Into the crock pot every weekend:

1 cup of steel cut oats
    3 cups water
1 cup unsweetened almond milk (whatever flavor you like - I usually do vanilla or almond/coconut blend)

optional mix-ins I've tried and enjoyed:
    1/2 cup raisins or craisins
1 diced up apple, peel on with a few dashes of cinnamon and nutmeg

Cook on low for 5 hours, shut off and let cool for an hour. Makes approx six 1 cup servings.

This recipe makes me so very happy all winter long.

You don't have to grate the apples, you can just chop them up coarsely.
