I am 62 and also a double amputee. I class myself as quiet able bodied but do everything a little slower than the norm. my exercise is swimming 3x weekly at the local pool, this is for 1 hour each time. & swimming moderate to fast in this time. I have been following mfp for 16wks now and only lost 3 kg which has come off so so slow .I have been taking measurements and have lost in the tum & hip areas, even my neck has gone down by 2 cms, but my actual weight is not moving apart from going up & down. I could do with some advice on what I am doing wrong please.

Well, can you tell us some info about what you are eating? Logging everyday? That sort of thing0

You're losing weight, albeit slowly, which helps you keep your muscle mass, and you're losing centimeters. And you're a double amputee who gets regular exercise. Fat loss can be a slow process, but I think that you're doing it right.0

I think I am eating correctly and keeping within the allocated 1510 cals a day.
Breakfast is usually porridge or yogurt & fruit.
Lunch is soup & cruskits ( low cal cracker) w cheese or a sandwich of some sort.
Dinner is a cooked meal.
Fruit is usually eaten for a snack
My clothing is loser, jeans & pants slip down the hips easier now so I am not complaining there, but the scales just don't register much.
I weighed myself this morning and again I have stayed the same for the last week, no gain but no loss either.
the only thing I am not doing is eating the extra calories gained by swimming.
Occasionally I may go over the 1510 cals by 150 - 200 cals but mostly I try to stay way within the daily limit allocated.0 -
Greetings from Masterton! (I knew you were a fellow Kiwi when you mentioned Cruskits). Focus on the measurements and the other positive changes that eating healthier and exercising regularly is having on your body, mind and mood. The scale is a slippery beast at the best of times.
This is a good path for you to be on...stick with it. :flowerforyou:
PS: Reminder to self - read this post the next time you feel disheartened by the lack of movement on the scales!0 -
I lost inches and toned for many months before shedding any pounds. At first I was upset, but then I just rejoiced in my increased health and improved appearance. Doing what you are doing as a double amputee makes the rest of us whiners look like ....well whiners. Keep it up!0

Thanks to you all, I will just keep doing what I'm doing and wait.
This is the first weight loss plan I have ever been able to stick to and enjoy. I find I need to log in daily and by adding my food for the day can keep on track reasonably easy.
It is definitely making me more aware of what I put in my mouth now so that's a good thing0 -

Like you I plan my food and exercise in advance - it helps me stay on track, and then there's the added bonus of having folks congratulate me on my day's efforts before I've even done any of it!0
