Go hard or go home...

Ok so I was a bit of a whinge bag when training this morning, and so in order to cheer me up, my trainer was shouting phrases I will be able to say to my friends when I train with them and they can't keep up and this one really made me giggle - it did the job though - I managed those extra lunges even if I did nearly fall over...

What phrases do you all use to motivate you? xxx

I don't really use phrases so much as mini goals, like "15 more deadlifts and then you can rest" or "just keep running to the top of the hill and then you can walk". I also tend to be a bit competitive, even with myself, so if I've done something once I wont quit until I've either replicated the effort or improved it.
  • Mine's a bit of the opposite approach. When I start whining (even just mentally), I think of this great Nike ad.

I use the Nike advert they had for the World Cup, it was entitled 'Write Your Future'

The music is awesome too, really gets me pumped to sprint that last half mile!

"One more minute, I can run for One more minute."

Then repeat for as long as needed

I find it quite easy to lie to myself

Ah! I do the same thing! lol I always set the timer to 10 minutes and as it gets close I sneak it up a minute. Today I was able to stay on that forsaken elliptical machine for TWENTY minutes! Oh, how I HATE the elliptical machine... :grumble:

Depending on how much time I have left in a class or on a machine, I just say to myself "I can do ANYTHING for 1 minute" or whatever the length is. (Doesn't work much past 15 though!)
  • These are fab! I'll have to get my trainer to remind me of some more tomorrow xxx
