I would like to know this, too. I've read a lot of cyber-punk, steampunk would be fun!0

cant help you but a story of time travelers from some cyberpunk dystopia trip into the past steampunk era of their timeline could be interesting.0

I mostly read science fiction. Just read the Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher, Nightside series and Secret Histories series by Simon Green. Big "Age of Misrule" fan, and pretty much anything Brandon Sanderson, Robet Jordan, Terry Goodkind..ect. Wanted to dive into steampunk and see if i enjoyed it as well.0

Seconded. I have read loads of fantasy and some sci-fi. But aside from Firefly comics, I haven't ready anything steampunk related that was very good. I do love alternative history types of novels and how the author thinks things would have different. I really adore the Temaraire novels (maybe not Tongue of Serpents).0 -

I hear The Difference Engine is a good place to start with Steampunk

It was the first thing I loaded onto my nook - seemed appropriate
Read The Witches of Chiswick by Robert Rankin years ago and that was fun (if you like slightly more comic-sci-fi). Starts in a miserable 23rd century and ends up in a funky 19th, with cameos from lots of famous characters...0 -

Put a call out to my horror/dystopian/spec fic crowd, but in the mean time, here's a link to one publisher...
can't say if they are any good, but if you're open to new authors it can't hurt - I suspect if their titles are available on Amazon there should be some reviews to help you in that area.

KE Mills' "Rogue Agent" series. Not exactly steam punk, but fantasy with a strong steam punk vibe. Plus, REALLY GOOD character development.0

Stephen Hunt has a series that is exquisitely steampunk.
Also, "Half made world" is probably one of the better books ever. It's steampunk/western.0 -

THIS! American Gods is one of my favourite books ever.0 -

So i started "Phoenix Rising" last night and im like two chapters in and i friggin love it. I'm gonna start grabbing some left and right if they are all like this . OH by the way B&N added a steampunk section to their fiction book area.
Their Books tab has a "Science Fiction/Fantasy" icon. Once you click that on the left hand side under special collections is a "Steampunk" link....or for those lazy folks the link is below:

Do you have a Goodreads account? I use mine big time to get reviews and recommendations. They do have a steampunk category too.0 -
I don't havea goodreads account. Their site does funky things while loading if im at work. I'll have to check it out when i get home to see if it works better there.0

They might need to update their site because lately I've been having the same issue. I think it's because a lot more people are on it nowadays. But yeah, if you can get on, that place is invaluable.0
