Doing Angie tonight for the first time. So far Grace is my favorite though I have a lot of work to do form-wise on snatches.

For those not familar, Angie is:

For time:

100 pullups
100 push ups
100 sit ups
100 air squats.

I will scale the pullups down to ring rows as I can't do pullups yet.

I'm also curious as to how long it will take me before Health_Girl PMs me to tell me about the perils of CF.

you go to 100? or you do as many as you can for a certain amount of time?

or you time how long it takes you to do 100 pull ups lol

No_Finish_Line, Crossfit Workouts of the Day are foten named after girls. So the workout is labeled Angie. And, when it's 100 pull ups for time, you literally do the 100 pulls 9and all the other exercises in the WOD) as fast you can, timing yourself. I'm not a crossfitter, but I have done WOD on my own at home, so if I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me.

oh, usually when i hear 'for time' i assume it means 'you have x min (or seconds) to do as many as you can'.

although in swimming it meant you have so long to complete a distance, if you finish early you rest that amount of time, if you finish late you have to go right away

If that's the case, it will give a time and say AMRAP ( as many reps as possible). I've gotten a lot of running in the random WOD that get emailed to me.

I feel I could knock out an excellent time on this - my biggest limitation being pull ups, probably, because I refuse to kip like I often see in Crossfit (not to have that come off as haterade, either, just saying). I have pulled off 200 push ups and 100 pull ups in about 14 minutes in the past, breaking briefly between sets of 20 and 10.

When I first clicked on this though, I expected my answer to be Annie Thorisdottir, lol. I guess it is to some extent anyway, though!

lol that name i actually know. I was watching a competition on ESPN and it kept sounding like the were just calling her "Thor's Daughter" lol.

It might take me 20 or more just to do the pull ups. idk seems like i'd be down to sets of one pull up pretty fast lol. i'm going to have to challenge myself and try that.

thats very impressive that you do it in 14 min

where do they come from anyway? is there supposed to be one offical source? do all the boxes do the same WOD ?

they aren't proper pull ups.... And 3 2 1 ill have loads of crossfitters on my case for saying that! They are kipping pull ups. Yes before you all start I know they're hard too etc etc! I'm not a "cross fit" hater as there's no such thing - it's just lots of combinations of moves that already existed and they've put a name to it.

Running, rowing and jump roping are a huge part of CrossFit, Had a WOD the other day that included a 5k.

It's a mix. Every box does a different WOD usually - they don't coordinate worldwide on a daily basis. But, the girl WODs are benchmarking workouts that are common to all boxes. Every once in a while, a box will throw in one of the girls so you can see how much (or how little) you have improved at some of the basics.

I signed up for an email from a site that send me a WOD based on the equipment I have available to me. I've got another program going, so I've done maybe 4 of them. There is a running one called the Stinger that I've done a time or two, I enjoy it. I think the 'original" crossfit guy (can't remember his name) or the people at crosffit.com maybe came up with the workouts, but I think boxes don't necessarily follow crossfit.com's WOD, and maybe make up there own. Again, I don't actually do CrossFit, I've never been to a box, so all this info is just what I've sort of gleaned from research.

Kips are a tool in the tool belt for people who can't do straight pullups for multiple rounds (although on some workouts, we have to do straight pullups). For the most part, people who have advanced to a straight pullup do straight pullups.

I'm fairly new (been at it for about 7 months) and I still have to use a band to get my chin over the bar. You'd probably laugh at me, too. Nice.

I got one, and I specifically said I don't CrossFit! Also, if she'd go to my post history, she'd see that I'm not a CrossFit proponent and have actually talked about possible cons of CrossFit in the past when people ask. I also didn't appreciate being talked down to. I'm a flipping grown-up, I can do my own research. And, maybe you should actually read my post or look at my profile or history before just seeing my name in a CrossFit thread and sending me a clearly cut and paste message.

I agree, kipping is kind of silly. I'll learn it but I'm much more interested in developing my chest-to-bar pullups. If kipping helps, so be it.

    Cross Fit terrifies me.

It shouldn't. The workouts look overwhelming but one of the key components of Crossfit is scaling the workout to fit your fitness level.

For instance I did Angie last night (hehe, double entendre intended)

    100 pull ups
    100 push ups
    100 sit ups
    100 air squats.

We had time limits on pull ups and push ups. At the 10 minute mark move on from pull ups, at the 20 minute mark move on from push ups. We also had a 30 minute total time limit

I can't do either so I did ring rows and did the push ups from my knees. Got 96 ring rows and 86 push ups then was given give minutes for sit ups (got 50) and another five for air squats and got something near 80.

I noted it all down and in a few months when we do the workout again, I'll compare and see how I've progressed.

Seems odd to have a workout with the same number of pull ups as push ups, sit ups, and air squats. But w/e.

    Cross Fit terrifies me.

    why- it's just a workout.

One of the oddest things I hear is "when I get in shape I want to try XXXXXX workout"

why- just try it now- just modify it to your level. It shouldn't- it's literally JUST a workout.

    Besides CrossFit = Kleenex = Band-Aid.

It's literally just a NAME. They don't own any of those moves. They just branded and marketed it. It's hysterical- the **** they have been doing is years old and not special at all.

You you see how long it takes to do 100, usually multiple breaks are taken. Though they are Cross Fit (kipping) pull-ups, not real pull-ups.

typically, when i do pull ups, i'll do them as strict as i can and when i get tired i'll just natrually start adding a little english from the hips down.

am i cheating at that point? well its making the exercise easier so i suppose i am.

do i think i'm going to get more conditioning by doing the kip ones after i get tired versus stopping? yes i do

i'm willing to bet most people who do the 'cheat ones' also do a lot of 'non cheat ones' so thats a pretty legitimate way to train.

    forgive the incoherrant post,

this 'I train this way so thats the best way' crap just pisses me off.
