Finding a 'gym buddy'

I was wondering how to go about finding a gym buddy. I work from home so I don't tend to meet many people, and I think that if I had someone to go to the gym or go for a swim with it'd boost my motivation to actually get out of the house and go. I've tried a few sites, but there doesn't seem to be anyone in the Derby area on them.
Any tips?

I don't know about your area, but if there are any groups, club, etc... that might be a good opportunity. I met several running buddies by taking a 5k training program at a local running store. I think there are masters swimming groups and other training programs for swimmers so that might work well.0

If you want a gym buddy, go to the local gym and ask a receptionist if there are any groups they have available. Sign yourself up for a 5k and meet people. Mention casually, "Hey, I'd love to work out with you sometime!"0

Lol I'm less worried now!
I found out that I can get cheap access to council run fitness classes (I don't earn much so money is definitely a factor!!) so I went to an aerobics class and an aqua fit today on the basis that the receptionist assured me that many over-weight/ unfit people go to these classes so I gave it a go.
(FYI, nearly died! Aerobics was replaced with a military bootcamp circuit class last minute...eek!)
Still I met a few ladies at both classes who were really nice and all made sure I was definitely coming back next week and plans to meet up beforehand for a bit of a natter. So I think I'm going to really enjoy going to these classes every week now0
