Ideas on making protein powder taste better?

My mom bought me Amplify XXL in Vanilla and it tastes horrendous. I'm supposed to consume 3 scoops of it daily, and I can barely finish half of the shakes/smoothies. Usually, my smoothies consist of banana, spinach, and sometimes berries. I've had a peanut butter banana shake with this protein powder and it tasted fairly good because the PB masked the powder somewhat well. I've warmed soy milk and mixed the powder and some cocoa powder to make hot chocolate. I've made a pudding out of yogurt, soy milk, cocoa powder, almond butter, and the protein powder and ended up almost vomiting after consumption. Yesterday I made a protein waffle with it, and that tasted really good. But the smoothies I make just taste awful for some reason. I'm not allowed to just throw out the powder because A) it was really expensive, and I have to put on weight/muscle for health reasons, and this stuff is what my doctor recommended. I'm new to protein powders, but the Pure Protein powder in Vanilla Creme was what I used before and tasted absolutely glorious. I just want to make it thru this tub and maybe I'll ask for another recommendation.

Buy a new Protein powder. Check out On Gold Standard Whey. Chocolate (either Malt or Double Rich) mixed with low fat milk tastes like a dessert. Try to stay away from Vanilla unless you are making puddings/sludges as they typically are the least desireable.
For a Protein Vanilla Pudding thry this:
* 1/2 Packet Jell-O Sugar Free / Fat Free Vanilla Pudding
* 2 scoops of Protein
* 2 Cups of Low Fat Milk
* 1 Sliced Banana
* Topped with Grahram Cracker Crumbles.0 -

Only type of protein powder i use, btw you might notice the scoop for the Vanilla creme was only 1 scoop? Mine is anyways.
Dont like taking shakes all the time.
Grab a bowl. mix
2 cups of quick oats, the stuff to make oatmeal.
4 scoops of protein powder, although i am not sure about that brand you are currently using lol.
mix it up real good with a spoon.
Take another bowl and add 1/2 cup of milk and 4 Tablespoons of low fat peanutbutter to the milk.
Personally i throw them into the blender and mix them that way.
Pour the milk/peanutbutter over the dry mix of oats and protein powder and stir. Keep at it until it all starts sticking together. Personally i had to add a tad more milk as my mix was too dry to soak up all the oats and protein powder. Once its mixed up to the point you can handle it, kneed it until its all nice and solid as well as dry. Sticky is ok but its a pain to deal with. Spead that into any sort of pan or container that you can spread thin enough to cut 8 pcs from. Recipe is very wildly known in this and other forums.0 -
I HATE Amplify. The only thing I've found to mask the taste of it alone is peanut butter.
I hate to waste money, so I've been mixing 1/2 scoop with 1 scoop of good protein (usually Optimum Nutrition) in smoothies ONLY.0 -
Our bariatric patients are prescribed Unjury (which has to be THE nastiest tasting protein powder)...we mask it with peanut and other nut butters. We also mask it in bean dips and gaucamole. We have had some success in masking it with agave nectar or honey, but that depends on your personal macro goals. Lastly, we've noticed the stronger the flavor of something...hot sauce, garlic, etc, the easier it was to hide it. Some protein powders can't be heated over 140 degrees which may explain why some powders go off when cooked, but if yours made it through a waffle iron without any ill effects, then you may want to consider baking waffles and pancakes with it until its gone, since that is how you tolerate it best.0

It should also be noted that 3 scoops of Amplify (one "serving") is equal to 2 scoops of most other proteins (2 servings. 60g v 30g) Being as such it has twice the protein per serving, but you could just as easily use 2 scoops of your favorite protein to get the same effect.0

Thank you all; I'm currently sipping on a smoothie I made with the powder, 1/4 tsp of vanilla extract, 1/4 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 a peach, and a handful of blueberries and it tastes very good. I think that maybe because I used the vanilla and cinnamon in the waffle and liked it, it masks the taste of the powder.0
