So its just my 2nd week of having started on my diet, I went from having 3,000 + calorie days to 1400 + about 200 calories burned per day from exercise. My weight seems to stay the same, does dieting/working out take a few weeks to start working? Very frustrating.

Be patient and drink lots of water! Remember you didn't put it on over night, and it won't come off over night. (-; You can do this!

Thats a big drop in calories!! Are you hungry? Yeah it does take time, one week your body will just be like "LETS SHED SOME POUNDS!!!!" and you will start to drop.

You're a guy, why on earth are you eating that little?
  • You and I are in the same boat, so to speak, i have a couple weeks of a head start.
The 'not losing' and the frustration of the begining are normal, i felt it too.

There are only two parts for your new credo :
*Cal in < cals out (you may want to reevaluate your intake, it does seem like too much of a gap, but i'm no expert) (also, you probably already know about eating healthy and nutritious foods)

*Consistency is key. In the fable, the hare didn't win the race, the turtle did. You wanna be that turtle. You wanna be the turtle who logs everyday, weighs all its food, supports his friends on MFP and does some turtle exercising on a regular basis.

Patience, consistency = amazing results. Many many people on here are living proof. (I was too before relapse... I lost my turtle and turned into an ogre again, but that's a different story...)

First thing......you're definitely not eating enough. You should figure out your BMR, which is the absolute lowest amount of calories you should be taking in every day. Some will tell you to calculate your TDEE and do -20%, and that works for most.. I meet my BMR and see the difference between my TDEE and what I take in as my deficit.

Your muscles are storing water to repair themselves after you workout. It takes a few weeks to adjust from that. I think you really need to reevaluate your calorie intake.

I agree with reevaluating your calories (eat more). I'm a 5'7 female and I eat more than 1400 to lose weight. Eating too little (below you BMR) can hurt your weightloss in the long run so better adjust it now at the start. You may even see more consistent losses then.

    ^^This and

I used to eat 3000-3500 calories per day (200+ lb male). I used to "diet" and eat 1200-1400. I would lose 20, but would promptly gain it back eating like I used to.

Now it is a lifestyle change and I am literally eating 1950-2300 calories per day depending on how much I work out. I am losing steadily. I finally read enough articles here and stopped "eating too little'.

I realized that I needed to "fuel" my workouts

1400 + about 200 calories burned per day from exercise.

I read this thinking you were a woman, you're definitely not eating enough for a man, have you worked out your BMR/TDEE?

And it's not a race or biggest loser, weight loss doesn't need to be rushed :flowerforyou:

If you are completely honest with your food diary and you are eating below your Base Metobolic Rate (BMR), then for each 3500 calories deficit you should see a 1 lb loss. However, it may take till the 3rd week to see it. If you don't see a change by the 3rd week, then something is wrong and you should see a doctor. Remember to not go over the salt goal, as that can add water weight.

Weight often comes off in chunks rather than a steady loss so stick with it. I also often find that I lose very little when I'm working out regularly but when I have a week off I see a big drop in weight. When I get back to working out my weight seems to plateau again but I continue to feel stronger and more toned.

I agree that you may not be eating enough. Too much of a deficit will eventually stall your weight loss and make you feel rubbish.

Not that my opinion matters much, but I really do agree with the others above me. You really need to eat more...especially because you are a man. Maybe try upping your calorie intake 400 calories or more.... I really think if you did you would see a difference. Wishing you the best. :flowerforyou:
