Mud Runs! Is anyone else a mudder?

Is anyone else a mudder? I'm having a very hard time finding anyone else who does mud/obstacle runs. Looking to share my joy of mudding!

I've done about 3 of them and they are very addicting. Sadly though, they are very expensive and without having a good paying job I just cant' really afford them right now.

Definitley, unfortunatley they don't tour much in South Carolina. So I have to go to Virgina and North Carolina for them.

Edit: Yes they are very expensive!! lol..

Oh ME! Pick ME!! I've completed two Tough Mudders, a Warrior Dash, Two Spartan Races, Two Rugged Maniacs, Fugitive mud run, I'm registered for the Run for your Lives race in September too, plus a couple other ones later on this season. I'm ADDICTED!!

Not to steal the OPs thunder, but can you guys tell me a little about them? I'm not ready to do one yet, but once I lose some more weight I think I may want to. Sounds like a ton of fun. I can't seem to imagine running in mud, water, etc and not being horribly uncomfortable in wet clothes.

I'm planning to do Tough Mudder but I'm presently dealing with a knee issue. I'm getting close to the time I have to decide yes or no though for the next one, but hopefully will be able to do it this November.

    Guilty!
They're so addictive. If they weren't so expensive, I'd love to do them every other weekend!
You'll probably get a lot of feedback. I think a crap ton of people on here participate in mud runs.

I'll be doing my first one next summer. I have a crap load of friends that do them though.
  • I've done a short one, which was my first, this past April. It was a blast! I'm actually doing another in September with the company I work for called Beach Raid. I'm definitely not fast at it but it's so fun just to finish! :)

Volunteer at the runs. a lot of runs will let you run for free or you can get points towards runs, or even get a free run at a different run in the future.

Edited to add: I completed a Spartan this past June, and am doing another one in May of 2014, and probably a different mud run in July 2013. Unfortunately where I am there are not too many mud runs yet and travel expenses are my issue.

If you volunteer a certain amount of hours for Spartan Race, you get to race for free. Definitely the way to go!

I have done a handful. I think out of the five times I went I ran by myself. Truly by myself. The Warrior Dashes my friends were either ahead or behind so I ran the course by myself and the Tough Mudder I ran with one other and in a group and always stayed together. Sometimes it is hard to find people and money can be an issue. I live in Minnesota and there always seems to be a mud run/obstacle going on. They are very fun.

I enjoy them, but I can't find anyone (any of my friends) around here who wants to join me. It's not much fun to do them alone.

What level of physical fitness do you need to complete a mudder? My cardiovascular fitness is okay, but I don't have much upper body strength...

Our Jayne saw the mudders' backs breakin'
    He saw the mudders' lament
And he saw the magistrate takin'
Ever dollar and leavin' five cents.
He said, "You can't do that to my people.

    ...oh wait..wrong mudders!!!
