just weighed in for the first time since starting.... the scales put me at 15lb more than my starting weight.
i'm so upset. i've been having such a positive week, eating well and enjoying it. now i just want to crawl under my duvet and not come out again.
supposed to be going out with my work crowd tomorrow, to a steak restaurant, and i've been happily munching my salads whilst declaring that i can't wait for a few vodka tonics tomorrow night because i feel like i've earned it! (not just by eating well, but through working hard at my job etc)
now i don't even want to go. how can i sit there and eat steak and chips knowing i'm more than a stone heaver than i thought i was? my original starting weight was bad enough.
the worst part is that part of me is in denial! i just stood looking at the mirror for two minutes thinking 'i can't be nearly 13 stone, i'm wearing a (UK) 12 uniform! size 12s don't weigh 13 stone!'
motivation = destroyed.

Use this as motivation to figure out how & why you gained, then take steps to change that. Had you not weighed since starting? Are you logging accurately?0

weighed 2 months ago and started cutting down and watching what i ate from there. been on mfp for a few weeks. yes i log as accurately as possible0

If you gained 15lbs in 2 months then you know the obvious problem. You're eating too much.
Here's the thing. If I eat at maitenance for one day I gain 3-4lbs but its water weight. Chances are, most of the weight you gained is water and some fat. NO BIGGIE! Just pick yourself up and eat at deficit.0 -
How long have you been doing this, how long since you last weighed in, and how do your clothes fit? Where did you weigh, and was the floor level? Was it the same scale and same spot as your starting weight weigh in? Have you been taking measurements? With a growth of 15 pounds, I'd expect your clothes to feel a good bit tighter somewhere, but I'm not convinced you've gained 15.
Took a peek at your food diary and it looks in order. Only question is, how do you measure your food, and do you watch your water intake? If you aren't drinking enough water your body could be hoarding the stuff to revitalize your muscles, which adds water weight.0 -
I'd definitely weigh more often in the beginning just so that you can see whether the things you're doing are working, weigh like once a week. That is really weird to me though, are you sure you don't have a medical problem or something? Or have you been lifting, gained muscle?0

Make sure you are weighing yourself consistently. Try to do it at least twice a week, same time of day, and in the same clothes (or lack thereof). Water weight fluctuates like crazy, I can be +/- 5 pounds daily!
Don't get discouraged, keep going, and go enjoy that steak dinner0 -
Don't bee too hard on yourself! like the others said, how do your close fit? 15lb you would notice them a lot tighter! mabey it is just bloating and water weight 9close to aunt flo??) your food diary looks great! healthy choices on there, good for you!0

I think you would notice a 15 lbs. weight gain in how your clothes fit. I'd say water weight or scale error. I know it's discouraging, but use this as motivation to find the problem and just keep going! I would encourage you to take your measurements and go off of those as well, the scale alone will drive you nuts. And enjoy your steak!0

Either you have been eating at a surplus (you can do that on any type of food) or there is something medical going on....just my thoughts.
ETA: Have you checked the accuracy of your scale?

Did you weigh yourself first thing in the morning, without eating? Are you sure your scale is accurate? 15lbs you definitely would have noticed your clothes getting tight/not fitting unless you are wearing muumuus.0 -
I just quickly looked at your food diary, just a week or so, and frankly, it looks really good. Assuming that you are truly logging everything and are confident about weights... your calories and macros are really right it line. That said, I can't explain why you'd gain 15 lbs in 2 months... and not notice it. Could be your scale. Recommend that you 1) weigh yourself at least once per week, at least until you see that you're moving in the right direction and 2) validate your scale's accuracy. Did you weigh yourself on the same scale, at the same time of day, wearing the same clothes as the first time? The average person can fluctuate about 5 lbs in a day from just water and waste in the body.0

thinking about it sensibly (ie not shrieking 'FATTY! FATTY! continuously inside my head), i have probably weighed myself under bad circumstances as a lot of you said. it was at 6pm after 2 meals, with full work uniform on and different scales to normal. i do log accurately and have been enjoying eating this way so haven't had any need for secret snacks! will try again saturday morning with my normal scales and fingers crossed the damage won't be so bad. thanks for the advice. although i may still go easy on the vodka tonics tomorrow, no-one likes a miserable drunk...0

You didn't include any info about your routine. By your mindset, you're leading me to believe you're not eating enough cals. All you need to do is eat in moderation and get your *kitten* moving. Simple. And stay consistent...meaning 3-5 days working out and eating in moderation every day - minimum!
So, it's either the above scenario or that you're eating too much and not moving at all. Good luck on figuring it out!!0 -

mainly because i don't have scales at home and these are the only ones i've had access to in that time. i moved out of my parents house 2 months ago and haven't fully kitted out my apartment yet.0 -
Uniform on, after 2 meals? Do yourself a favor and buy a scale, they are like $10 at Target0

no targets in the UK unfortunately. as i said, it's difficult to weigh myself at work with no clothes on first thing in the morning. i was looking for a vague idea but 15lb seemed extreme even with clothing and later in the day. note my concern.0

Amazon.co.uk have digital bathroom scales for as little as £10. So do Currys.
I recommend daily weighing, first thing in the morning, and then taking an exponentially smoothed weighted average, as described by John Walker in "The Hacker's Diet" (chapter "Signal and Noise"): http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/e4/
The average smooths out daily fluctuations, allowing you to discern trends. So it doesn't matter if one day you weigh 4 lbs. more than the previous day, as long as *most* of your weights are below the trend line. If most are above, then you're gaining weight; if they're a mix, then you're maintaining.
Walker doesn't have much to say about diet and nutrition; his emphasis is on calorie counting. But his discussion of how to make the most of daily weigh-ins is spot on, in my experience.0
