Does housework count as an exercise? I am in the process of carrying in 5 cords of wood for the winter and sweating up a storm....I must be burning calories....can I put that on my chart?

I really do think this one is down to the individual. Personally I do not log things like housework or the amount I am on my feet at work because they are part of my daily routine and my aim is to get fitter xxx0

If your hauling wood I would add it because you do not do it every day.0

check out the exercise "carrying boxes". I think that would be equivalent to carrying wood.0

I count housework as exercise. I make sure that i clean the windows and get down on my hands and knees and scrub the floors. I do at least an hour each day and work up a real sweat! Keeping a record of it encourages me to keep active. Its all too easy to do a quicky clean then sit down with some tea and biscuits :drinker:0

I work as a housekeeper at a University so I do some HARD cleaning every night for 8 hours and that has never made me lose one oz of weight. I leave every night soked from sweat. But everyone is different what ever works to help YOU lose weight0

I have a secret to tell you. Exercise is body or mental exertion. Therefore, almost anything you do can be considered an exercise if you meet the definition. Now, there isn't really any way to determine mental exercise and how that relates to kcals, but in regards to body, get a heart rate monitor, like the Polar FT40 which tracks your kcals. Wear it all day or whenever you are going to do any activity you want to track. Then record it in your diary.0

That's because you do it every day and are accustomed to it.
As far as carrying wood, since that's not a daily activity I'd say it definitely counts! I only clean house (scrub floors, toilets, showers, etc.) once a week and I definitely break a sweat and get my heart pumping so I count it.0 -
Thanks Ladies for the comments...I'm not counting my regular housework routine...but the wood is definitely different...I can so feel it in my muscles today....and there's plenty more wood to be moved if we want to be warm this winter! I call it my wood diet!0

That's excellent! To me, every little bit counts (even if I don't log it). I've been working out with my personal trainer for an hour in the morning, but I wish I could do more physical stuff throughout the day... My demise is this desk job, and my classroom in the evenings... :-/0
