This Protein is not for amateurs

So, I bought some protein supplement from the pharmacy today (compounding pharmacy - not like CVS) and it was pretty darn expensive - almost 60$. however, it's "Proprietary Non-Denatured Whey Protein" ...
which I also ordered regular Whey Protein from amazon for 20$ before I bought this other stuff....
but now I'm wondering....is all protein denatured in regular protein powders for the pharmaceutical grade to have to specify that theirs isn't?
btw, the pharmaceutical grade is simply DIVINE tasting. extremely smooth and you'd never guess it was a powder drink. no aftertaste. 1 scoop = 130 calories = 24 grams of protein. (NON-denatured protein to you)

but I'm a bit p$sed b/c the lady said it was gluten and dairy free (which it's not dairy free) and I wasn't buying it for me - but it looks like I'll get to drink it anyway as it's now useless to someone who is casein free.
so, anyone want to whey/weigh in on this? yes I read the website, but I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts/anecdotes/experience/science on if it actually makes a physiological difference ... I know a lot of people get great results using the regular (and supposedly denatured protein) powder so....WTH?

I don't know why the protein being denatured would matter. Protein that has been exposed to heat or acid will get denatured. That includes pretty much all natural animal-sourced proteins that we consume like meat and eggs, and all non-raw dairy. I've heard some people say that it lowers bioavailability but if that mattered, we'd all have to be taking this stuff to get "good" protein.0

1. I have never seen "look for non-denatured products" when researching protein powders. What claim do they make regarding why to buy non-denatured? Is it for a medical reason beyond needing to gain weight healthily? Sounds sketchy to me.
2. If the "pharmaceutical grade" is smooth, it's because it's instantized. I use Optimum Nutrition and it mixes into water very well.
3. Whey is a milk product so no, it isn't dairy free. You'll want soy, hemp, pea, rice, egg... or just look for a vegan protein powder, which is gonna be expensive.

Denaturation is the change in protein structure~ molecular folding. Low pH of stomach already denatures most proteins like cooking does. There are chaperone proteins in human cells that can refold, renature proteins before they're used in protein synthesis. I don't see the point of non denatured proteins for nutrition unless I'm using them in lab (genetics major).0 -
$60 for 2 pounds of protein. That's too rich for my taste. Call me an amateur and pass the $18 protein jar.0

Next time go to some review site that has vegan protein powders. http://veganproteinpowders.net is a good one I know of, the highest rated ones are actually pretty tasty.0

No you didn't waste your money when you demand a refund for being sold something that contains milk and you were told it did not.

80% protein percentage for $60?? No thanks, I can get 82% at Walmart for $20
Seems no better than loads of other protein powders out there. For the money I would want a lot less filler.0 -
thanks guys, I'm getting my 20$ protein from amazon today and I expect that it will suit me just fine. I've been using the other $$$ stuff bc I can't take it back - just their policy (with an apology) .

recant - maybe - on another note, I've been reading - and I guess it just depends what research you want to believe.
end of story - it's like everything else. confusing and you get inundated with "facts" from either side claiming to know it all.
so....
I guess the most gentle hypo-allergenic protein people can supplement with is hemp, pea or brown rice.
we used brown rice to begin with - so, the old addage, if it ain't broke....applies. happy friday everyone.0 -

3. As an isolate, whey has it's lactase and most of the fat removed. Whey has the highest BV of the proteins you mentioned.0 -
My protein powder is $50 for a 5lb tub. 1 scoop = 140 cals, 25 g protein, 3.5g carbs, 2.5g fat, 4.5g L-Glutamine, plus BCAAs and tastes great. I'm happy. Use it 4-5 times a week now. I like to eat0
