I skimmed through two pages and got bored so I don't know if sliced strawberries and real whipping cream was mentioned. That's my favorite way to eat french toast since I don't like syrup. I'm gluten free and have played around with different gluten or grain free recipes. We recently tried one made with almond flour and it was amazing! My family thought they were the best waffles I've ever made (and I've made a lot of waffles!) I don't remember off the top of my head what the carb count was but I know it was less than the typical waffle. The calories were out of this world though, lol. You can't make something with almond flour and expect it to be low carb. I did only eat half the amount I usually do though because with all those almonds and whipping cream it was pretty filling!

Since you're already eating the French Toast, I really wouldn't concern myself with a low carb topping...really, what's the point? My personal preference would be natural maple syrup...satisfy my craving and call it a day and get back on the low carb wagon tomorrow.

You can make a lighter French toast using liquid eggs and almond milk. French toast doesn't have to be a "no" food
I would say no to French toast made with liquid eggs and almond milk smothered in sugar free syrup. BLECH.

Don't knock it until you try it. It was delicious with unsweetened almond milk, liquid eggs and cinnamon.

JUDDDing, you would be correct. I am not doing keto or low carb diet. I just didn't want a majority of my carbs eaten at one meal. I have great suggestions here and will try one tomorrow when I eat my french toast in the morning :)

because there's a different between 45g of carbs in the toast, and 120 carbs in whipped topping...
Once I factor in the bread and the syrup, it is already at 52 carbs. I have been using 100% pure maple syrup as I like to avoid HFCS as much as I can.

If the bread itself if 45g of carbs, then the syrup is 7g. If one is looking to lower carbs, it's not (just) the syrup that needs changed.

How much syrup are you using? What kind? For the kind I buy, its 50g of carbs for one 1/4 cup serving.

I was just using the numbers the previous poster provided with the whole "there's a difference between 45g of carbs in the toast and 120 in the whipped cream."

That said, I use Pure Ohio Maple Syrup ( http://www.amishbasketsandbeyond.com/handgatheredpureohiomaplesyrup/maplesyrup ) since it's local for me. It's about $40 for a gallon where I can get it (an Amish-owned orchard store in eastern Ohio). I use something like a quarter or half cup in about 5lbs of sweet potatoes, which is 53g per 1/4 cup serving. I couldn't stomach that much syrup on something like pancakes or French toast, way too sweet, so my serving of it would be more like 1-2tbs, which is 13-26g of carbs.

Walden Farms Pancake Syrup. 0 Calories, 0 Carbs and 0 Fat. It is wonderful.

^^^^This. I am a T2 diabetic and the Walden Farms pancake syrup is the best. I can enjoy French Toast again. :)
