I want to lose weight

Been doing 1240 cals a day, and working out 3-4 times a week, cardio for an hour.
Initial drop, then stalled, and then 2 lbs regain.
TDEE - 20% is 1740. That makes me nervous. I think I'm going to shoot for 1500-1600 and see how that goes.
So I spoke with my mother-in-law the other day. She and my sister-in-law have lost 30 lbs. each. They eat 800 cals. or less in a dr. approved clinic, and put drops (hcg) under their tongues. She said she almost has to force herself to eat 800 cals., and usually only eats around 500. Said my sister-in-law looks better than ever, was finally able to get the weight off her hips (she's a pear shape).
That is TEMPTING. Okay, eating 500 cals. a day isn't tempting, but fast weight loss sure is.
My stepmother did a similar medically supervised diet last year, only she was getting b12 injections. She lost 40 lbs. She's in the process of putting the weight back on. She was paying $400/month to be on her diet, and wants to get back on it, because she's gaining and she is eating reasonably, or so she says. Who really knows.
I want to be one of those people who says I dropped 30-40 lbs.
Just saying, it's tough to listen to people so excited about having done it, who claim to be under a doctor's supervision and eating only lettuce practically. For someone who isn't seeing much results the old fashioned way, it sure sounds tempting.
Someone remind me how crazy those diets are.

Those diets are crazy and unhealthy.
I eat appx 1500 calories a day and exercise (eating back my exercise to get to 1500) and I have lost over 30lbs since January.
My bodyfat has dropped about 6% points and I have lost 9 inches in total.
Slow and steady. Eat your food as long as you stay at a deficet and if you are using TDEE-20% and it's 1740 eat that..(mind you a lot of TDEE calculators vary I use a manual calculation based on how much weight I have lost over the last 8 weeks to get mine)
Total calories eaten+weight loss calories(5*3500)/56(total days) to get my TDEE.0 -
You already are someone that can say they lost 7 pounds. Keep doing what you know is healthy for you. Weight loss does not have to be horriable and it does not have to be quick. Here is a little motivational thing i put up earlier on my feed.
3 people are traveling to the same destination. One takes a car, one rides a bike and You decide to walk. They may make it there first but as long as you just keep walking you will make it there as well. You may even enjoy the sites more and learn from your time traveling. Weight loss is a journey, it does not have to be a fast journey. Just keep moving to your destination and make sure you are taking the time to learn as you travel.0 -

This.
Okay, they have lost alot-alot of water and muscle. Maybe focus on building muscle while shredding fat. This will put you in best shape ever.0 -
Would you rather be able to tell people you lost 30-40lbs or be healthy? Your sister in law and mother in law are spending time and money doing something that is a misleading diet. Those drops do not make you not hungry, they do not make you lose weight, the whole HCG thing has yet to be proven that it works or is healthy. I can guarantee you that the weight they are losing is very little fat and mainly muscle and water. Consistantly eating so little will cause them health issues. You lose muscle not eating enough... your heart is a muscle don't forget. Also, when they are done the HCG they will gain the weight back and quickly.
You have lost 7lbs. Stop trying to lose like someone else.. especially people who are losing in a very very unhealthy way. Be proud that you can say that sure it took you longer but you did it yourself.. you put the work in, you did it and your weight loss is healthy weight loss where you can retain most of your muscle.0 -
I am sorry but eating 500-800 calories a day is a recipe for disaster! You can certainly bet on gaining all your weight back! Why? Because you can't live on 500-800 for the rest of your life. You must do now what you can commit to FOREVER. I eat nearly 1900 calories a day and finally started losing weight. I was eating 1200 or less and had no loss for 5 weeks. It wasn't until I took the plunge and started eating more that I finally started losing weight and it's working. A friend reminds me all the time about doing what you can do for the rest of your life and it's so true. I know people who've lost eating little calories, but I've also seen them ALL gain it back within the first year. Trust the numbers and you'll find yourself much more satisfied, losing weight and not feeling deprived. Good luck!

Those crazy diets with low-cal and injections don't work in the long term and are super $$$$. I know someone you did this, lost 80 pounds quickly, she looked amazing.... then stopped and gained it ALL back PLUS some more weight.
I don't know you so I can't really give you specific advice. I will however tell you what works for me: Lots of water, eating clean and a mix of strength training and cardio. I do cardio 2-3 times a week plus 3 sessions of strength training. I have, since April lost 10% body fat and 11 inches all over my body. Yes, it's slow going BUT it is working and eating clean is not easy.
I wish the best of luck and stay healthy!0
