How much do you "gain" from morning to evening?

Hi there,
Okay... a few things! I weighed myself tonight (after dinner) and compared it to this morning. Now, I know that I cannot physically gain 4 pounds in a day. I am just curious as to how much weight you gain in a day from morning til evening? I did get a little worried because I have never gained more than 4 lbs. in a day, but I know it can't all be fat, it is likely water retention and maybe some fat (as I did have a slight binge today).
Second, I weighed myself on my Taylor Brand Scale, it is digital. And I weighed it in the same spot and I got readings that were .2 to 1 lb. off. I then moved it's location to two different hard surface areas in my house and it gave me within that .2 to 1 lb. radius. The floor was not uneven, atleast to my knowledge. Why does it do this?
Thanks

I weigh in the morning and at night everyday. At night, I am exactly 3 pounds heavier than in the morning so I always subtract 3 pounds. The next morning, It is always right. (Assuming I have normal eating days) Its probably the food and water you had all day and has time to balance out at night.0

4-4.5 lbs. for me. It's always gone the next morning.0

3-40

Just think about all the stuff that you put inside of your body from when you wake up in the morning to when you go to bed at night. The foods and drinks that you have at every meal and throughout the day are heavy. It all sits in your body until it's digested, processed as waste, and eliminated. If you ate a lot of salt or had a vigorous workout, you could be retaining water. Are you weighing in different clothing at night vs. when you weighed in the morning? All of that stuff can weigh a lot.0

Usually 3-4 lbs., but it can get as high as 5 lbs., especially a couple weeks ago when it was nearly 100% humidity. It's gone in the morning, and if I'm doing well, so is a leeeeeettle extra weight, too.
And yes, if I move my scale to a different place (still an even, hard surface), the weight will change anywhere from 0.2-0.8 lbs., I've noticed. I just chalk it up to the quirks of digital scales!0 -
Leave your scale in one place!!!!!
It will read different no matter where you put it.
Quit obsessing, you will weigh more in the evening than you do in the morning.
Weigh in the mornings and leave it at that.
Your weight will go up and down, pick a day to be your "weigh in day" and log it.0 -
huh? why are you weighing twice a day? sounds obsessive. water, food, lack of pooping many things affect weight.0
-
I've been up as much as 5 pounds from morning to evening.0

A gallon of water weighs 8.33-ish pounds. Drink some water, it looks like you gained weight.
You ate food that's slowly moving through your system, food weighs anything from a few ounces to a pound or more.
Leaning forward or back on a scale, or shifting weight right and left, will throw the balance a bit.0 -
mine ranges from 3 to 5 pounds between morning and night except today when they were the same that usually never happens0
-
Thanks for all the responses- It appears that we all seem to "gain" that 3-5 lbs. throughout the day0

1 to 3 lbs, on average.0

depending on the day and the amount of water i drink, i'd say 2-3 pounds... but lately 4 isn't even that surprising.. since my double ankle surgery my doctor has me drinking 4 liters of water a day and that really adds up in overall mass... but then i pee it out in the morning and im back to the starting point0
-
around 2 lbs0

i never weigh myself in the evening so IDK...I do weigh myself three times a week m, w, fri mornings and then take a weekly average..
I would assume over course of day you would "gain' 2-4 pounds in water weight, eating, bloat, etc...
seems like you are a wee bit obsessive about the scale...0 -
I am almost always 2 lbs heavier at night than I am in the a.m. (And yes, I am obsessive about weighing myself.)0
-
I have no idea, because I weigh myself only every two weeks. I know that daily weight fluctuation is normal and refuse to waste any time over obsessing how much it is. I don't quite understand what difference it should make if I know my daily personal fluctuations over the long run, because in my book long term is the only thing that counts.0

Minus 2 to plus 5 pounds (some rare evenings I weigh less). These days I generally only weigh myself every day or multiple times a day when I have recently changed something that I know will make my weight fluctuate more, but Saturday after waking and using the loo is the only weight I log.0

I gain 3 lbs from morning to night daily.
How many people like to schedule early morning doctor's appointments because of this? lol0 -
BP and AP - before poo and after poo. This is a law of physics I will never understand.
But more importantly, why are you worrying how much you weigh after all you eat? You aren't going to gain 1lb of fat from 'a little bingeing'. You are weighing too much - throw out the scales! I only weigh when I am around a scale, usually at the gym these days once a week at best.0 -
It depends. Recently because I haven't been training as hard, probably about a 2.5 pound differential at most, but at the peak of training, I've seen a 6 pound differential.1
-
I have changed 8 lbs in a 14 hour period before.
On average 3-5lbs difference.0 -
really?
I personally have no idea as I only weigh in maybe once a week if I am lucky...I don't own a scale..0 -
Generally 5 pounds. And I think weighing yourself multiple times a day is only obsessive if you get upset about it. It is kind of interesting really. What I find even more fascinating than "gaining" five pounds during the day is that I "lose" it during the night. Where does it go?
Another interesting thing to do is to weigh yourself before and after a big workout.0 -
usually 3-4 lbs but sometimes I've seen it 5-7 lbs.0
-
I don't have consitent numbers, since it's kinda pointless. But I've weighed in the afternoon/evening occasionally out of curiosity.
I think it's generally about 3-4 pounds.0 -
I have no idea why there's such a focus on the scale - it's not your friend, so why rely on it so much?? I recommend letting the scale go and if you must check in with it, only do so once per week, better yet, once per month even. Checking scales daily will drive us mad. There are so many variables that determine weight, that I gave up on scales. Tehy're not reliable. Best measure of success is how your clothes fit. Honestly.... my scale can tell me up I've gained weight, yet my clothes are starting to fall off. So which should I believe? I know which one I'm going with.....0

I disagree ...if you want to really nail your maintenance level, bulk level, and cut level calories, then I think that you should weight yourself three times a week and take an average. This way you will pretty much find your sweet spot for maintaining, losing, and cutting...
I have been doing this over two months and has really helped improve my understanding of my calorie intake for cutting, maintaining, and bulking...
Online calculators are just that, calculators...use the scale and you will not need an online calculator...0
