Tofu Shirataki Noodles - Fettuccine - Placed An Order

I use to eat them long ago. However, I was turned off by the stink. They smell like fish as soon as you open the package. I don't eat fish or meat (I am a Vegetarian). But, I love the fact that it's only 40 calories for the whole package (each package contains 2 servings).

As soon as I put the sauce on it....the smell goes away. I am thinking of adding sauce and veggies to it.

Does anyone else here eat Shirataki Noodles? if so, any vegetarian preparation suggestions?

Thanks :)

I know...they taste rubbery nothing like the real deal.

But I thought I could find a healthier substitute.

I think they are OK, but they make my stomach hurt like nothing else trying to digest them.

Natural peanut butter and soy sauce (amounts to your taste). Warm in microwave for about 30 seconds and mix together until blended. It seems like it will never come together but it does. Add some cayenne pepper for a little heat. Pour it over the noodles. I like to add broccoli or whatever other vegetables I have along with some green onions. YUMMY either warm or cold!

    OMG sounds delicious :)

I will definately be trying that.

Do you eat the noodles as well.... or not as often?
  • Sorry no ideas as I don't partake. I do like Soba Noodles. Good luck with the hunt for some ideas.

This sounds wonderful - thanks for sharing - I am trying to think if I would even bother to put it on a noodle dish or eat it like soup!

I love shirataki noodles, both the zero-calorie ones and the tofu ones. The key is preparing them. Get out a colander and have a good spray of hot water going. Then clip open the bag and drop the contents right into the colander, right away. Rinse well with the hot water and 90-95% of the smell goes away.

Then, take out a fry pan that can take a good high heat. spray with cooking spray and dry-fry the noodles for anywhere from 5-15 minutes to get a lot of the moisture out and a better consistency. tofu shirataki need a lot less frying than the other kind. I particularly love the shirataki fettucini. I make a pad thai sauce to stir-fry them in for a bit, and then add separately some cooked shrimp or chicken. (if you add the shrimp during stir-frying, it expresses liquid and makes the whole thing watery). My husband and I love that better than the pad thai at the local thai restaurant. Scrambled eggs would go great in this for vegetarians. also wonderful with green onion and bean sprouts stir-fried into it.

Also spaghettic sauce--yes, we use the tofu shirataki for that, and look and texture more like wheat pasta.

I made a cheese omelette with them, it was tasty I can't remember where I got the recipe but if you google it you will find it. Warning though although tasty I didn't like the look as they reminded me of something every time I cut the omelette. For tasty I would go with yes for appealing ummm no. :)

I don't think I've got the right noodles, I was thinking when I read the post the noodles were slim noodles or zero calorie noodles.
    Apologies:embarassed:
