Why is it so easy but yet so hard?

One thing that I've noticed over time is that it is super easy to meet and exceed the daily carb target yet I've never, ever been able to meet my protein target. Why in the world is it so hard to hit the targets? I'm looking for suggestions on foods at aren't full of additives, no MSG please, that are high in protein but low in carbs. I try to eat yogurt, cheese, and avoid nuts due to a recently diagnosed tree nut allergy. Any suggestions for things other than these products?

Chicken and fish have no carbs, or very little.

    Presumably you are vegetarian?

Close. I don't mind eating meat but my stomach doesn't tolerate it well. I try to eat at least one small serving of some type of meat per day. Usually turkey, chicken, or fish. Occasionally venison, buffalo, or pork. Rarely beef. I do eat eggs daily along with the dairy. Forgot to mention that before.

Some of my favourite carbs for those times when youre eating carbs anyway are New York fruit and oat bagels which have 9g of carbs. I also like Danone-shape yogurts which have 8g of protein. cottage cheese and low fat cream cheese are nice. Beef , chicken and pork are good sources of protein , so are fish, eggs and hard cheese. Some incomplete proteins when joined together make complete proteins with as much protein as a steak such as baked beans on toast. Vegetable sources of high protein include brussel sprouts, Kale, Edamame beans, lentils, sunflower seeds, almonds, tofu, quinoa,. Tinned fish such as tuna, mackerel, crab, salmon, pilchards.

Edamame, nuts, veggie burgers and soy drinks are all high in protein, and the list goes on. Or you could just supplement with protein shakes.
  • I just readjusted my macros and am shooting for 50% protein 25% carbs and fat. I basically have cut out bread and eat ALOT of meat. Then to get carbs I usually eat fruit occasionally pasta for some sort of bread. It's difficult but once you figure out what is low or no carbs it's not too bad. I keep a list of high, medium and low carb foods in my kitchen.
