way too many to choose from.... just a few that spring to mind...

    "Big In Japan" - Alphaaville

Winter's cityside, crystal bits of snowflakes
All around my head and in the wind
I had no illusions that I'd ever find
A glimpse of summer's heatwaves in your eyes
You did what you did to me
    Now it's history I see
Here's my comeback on the road again
Things will happen while they can
I will wait here for my man tonight
It's easy when you're big in Japan

When you're big in Japan, tonight
    Big in Japan, be tight
Big in Japan, where the Eastern sea's so blue
    Big in Japan, alright
Pay, then I'll sleep by your side
Things are easy when you're big in Japan
    When you're big in Japan...

    Neon on my naked skin
    Passing silhouettes
    Of strange illuminated mannequins
Shall I stay here at the zoo
Or shall I go and change my point of view
    For other ugly scenes
You did what you did to me
    Now it's history I see
Things will happen while they can
I will wait here for my man tonight
It's easy when you're big in Japan

Bill Withers - Ain't no sunshine

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
It's not warm when she's away.
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And she's always gone too long
    Anytime she goes away.

Wonder this time where she's gone
Wonder if she's gone to stay
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And this house just ain't no home
    Anytime she goes away.

    Planxty - Only Our Rivers

How sweet is life but we're crying,
How mellow the wine, but it's dry,
How fragrant the rose but it's dying,
How gentle the wind but it's ice
What good is in youth when it's aging?
What joy is in eyes that can see?
When there's sorrow and sunshine and flowers,
And only our rivers run free?

The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave
To the dark and the endless skies

    [/quote

This is definitely one of my favorite romantic songs.

    The other two are:

    Play Me by Neil Diamond

    You are the sun
    I am the moon
    You are the words
    I am the tune
    Play Me

    Annie's Song by John Denver

    You fill up my senses
Like a night in a forest
    Like the mountains in springtime
Like a walk in the rain
Like a storm in the desert
    Like a sleepy blue ocean
    You fill up my senses
    Come fill me again

I love the whole song--it is absolutely beautiful.

    Not beautiful.. but powerful.

"I know someday you'll have a beautiful life
I know you'll be the sun...
    in somebody else's sky...
but whyyy... whyyy can't it be mineeeeeee"

    Pearl Jam.

This is exactly what I was just going to post (but with the right lyrics! :p)

But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you will join us
And the world will be as one????

    this one's pretty thought provoking:

"It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" - bob dylan

You must leave now, take what you need, you think will last
But whatever you wish to keep, you better grab it fast
Yonder stands your orphan with his gun
Crying like a fire in the sun
Look out the saints are comin' through
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.

The highway is for gamblers, better use your sense
Take what you have gathered from coincidence
The empty handed painter from your streets
Is drawing crazy patterns on your sheets
This sky, too, is folding under you
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.

All your seasick sailors, they are rowing home
Your empty handed armies, are all going home
Your lover who just walked out the door
Has taken all his blankets from the floor
The carpet, too, is moving under you
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.

Leave your stepping stones behind, something calls for you
Forget the dead you've left, they will not follow you
The vagabond who's rapping at your door
Is standing in the clothes that you once wore
Strike another match, go start a new
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.

And it came to me then that every plan is a tiny prayer to father time
As I stared at my shoes in the ICU that reeked of piss and 409
And I rationed my breaths as I said to myself that I'd already taken too much today
As each descending peak on the LCD took you a little farther away from me
    Away from me

Amongst the vending machines and year-old magazines in a place where we only say goodbye
It stung like a violent wind that our memories depend on a faulty camera in our minds
But I knew that you were a truth I would rather lose than to have never lain beside at all
And I looked around at all the eyes on the ground as the TV entertained itself

'Cause there's no comfort in the waiting room
Just nervous pacers bracing for bad news
And then the nurse comes round and everyone will lift their heads
But I'm thinking of what Sarah said that "Love is watching someone die"

So who's going to watch you die?

--Death Cab for Cutie, "What Sarah Said"

The Bruce Springsteen verse most likely to make me cry:

Last night I heard your voice
You were crying, crying, you were so alone
You said your love had never died
You were waiting for me at home
Put on my jacket, I ran through the woods
I ran till I thought my chest would explode
There in the clearing, beyond the highway
In the moonlight, our wedding house shone
I rushed through the yard, I burst through the front door
My head pounding hard, up the stairs I climbed
The room was dark, our bed was empty
Then I heard that long whistle whine
And I dropped to my knees, hung my head and cried

THIS SONG IS THE BOMB FROM THE EARLY 80'S

    "IF I COULD FLY,
I'D PICK YOU UP, AND TAKE YOU INTO THE NIGHT,
AND SHOW YOU LOVE, LIKE YOU'VE NEVER SEEN,
    EVER SEEN"

    INTO THE NIGHT, BENNY MARDONES.

This is really embarrassing but that's one of my favorite songs ever.

Erm, I also couldn't see my unborn children in her eyes because I could never reproduce with her. Ya know, one of those problems with being a woman myself.

For a shoe-gazing indie kid a couple of lines from Indie Disco by Divine Comedy.

"And now we're moving to the beat
And staring at each others feet"

"She makes my heart beat the same way
As at the start of Blue Monday"

I went to a concert of theirs years ago and they did a cover of "careless whisper" as the closer. Kinda, funny and cool how many people knew all the lyrics

Fireflight - "Wrapped In Your Arms" Good song if one is feeling lost, alone, or beaten down.

"I'm here to stay. Nothing can separate us.. . . And I know I'm OK. You cradle me gently, wrapped in Your arms.

    I'm home"

    I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
    Don't know where it goes
But it's home to me and I walk alone

    Learn to forgive and forget
What if we choose to love
    We choose to love
    We choose to love
What if we choose to love
    We choose to love
    We choose to love

A little time, a little faith
    A little mercy for mistakes
Maybe love is all it takes to heal these scars
When we lay our weapons down
All the walls fall to the ground
We were worlds apart, and now here we are

Wow....those are interesting responses. You are right...I have never really loved a woman. BUT as a women who loves being loved by a man, the line really works for me. Its one of my favorite songs. Loved the movie its from, too. "Don Juan DeMarco". Johnny Depp was great.

Oh. No Wait. It's Tenth Avenue North. . .

    To wit

"One tear in the driving rain
One voice in a sea of pain
Could the maker of the stars
Hear the sound of my breaking heart . . .

One life, that's all I am
Right now I can barely stand
If You're everything You say You are
Would You come close and hold my heart"
