Will the elliptical build up my thighs?

Hi everyone,
I have been doing really well on my fitness program. I have only ever done body weight exercises on my legs like lunges, squats, dead lifts, etc. paired with 30-50 minutes on the elliptical at a lighter resistance.
And no, I am not asking another "will I get bulky question".. I am wondering if what I am doing is enough to get a nice shape and build up my legs/thighs? Or should I start squatting with some weight and doing other exercises with weights? I want some nice muscles!
I'm only asking because I am a bit intimidated by using weights. Will I build some muscle on my legs if I work-out on the elliptical at a higher resistance?? Or should I really start lifting heavy?

If you are eating at a deficit, you will not build any significant mass, although you could see an increase. Doing a high resistance on the elliptical could result in a small gain, but it won't progress after that. If you want to build the muscles in your legs, you'll need to lift heavy and eat at a surplus. If you still want to lose fat, lift heavy anyway while eating at a deficit, and your legs will look good once the fat is shed.0

Another vote for lifting heavy! I will do the elliptical for cardio every once in a while, but I attribute my slender and toned legs to weight lifting. I do a heavy leg routine 2x a week.0 -
that poor women, lol0

The only thing the elliptical builds is your cardio endurance. It does not build muscles in any way, shape or form.0
