I was searching for a "clean" deodorant and found this recipe on a website that I found doing a BING search I don't remember the websites name.. sorry but here is the recipe

6-8 tbsp coconut oil
1/4 c baking soda
1/4 c of arrowroot powder or cornstarch
just mix it all up until its creamy and store in an old deodorant container or a tupperware/plastic container

I have used this for a week now and I have to say it really works well!!

Sounds simple and I already have all the ingredients in my pantry but I don't think I'd be able to trust something I made at home, especially on a workout / humid day. I'm already paranoid as it is lol. But I sure would love to smell like coconut every time I overheated :D

Homemade deodorant? In a tupperware container? The image of putting it on is kind of off putting to be brutally honest. please post pics bc it's definitely interesting but im not sold.

I switched to this exact recipe about 3 months ago. I love it! The only thing I changed is reducing the baking soda to 2 tablespoons after the first month of using. It was really irritating my pits (many have this problem with baking soda).

Keep in mind folks, this is NOT an anti-perspirant, it is deoderant and it works that way. I have even started sweating less since using this as my pits are not all clogged up with the nasty chemicals in commercial deoderant. Make it and use it!

    Interresting!

I've seen a guy do that on a tv show called extreme cheapstake, not sure if it was the same recipe tho. Does it smell good? I'd give it a try not sure I'd switch...

    Thanks for sharing

So is it more like something you have to "deal with" at first? Sweating more? And then eventually your body adjusts?

you can add essential oils to it to make it smell like lavender or tea tree oil or whatever you like ! I will post a pic of it soon it looks like "normal" white deodorant.. I also have noticed less sweating and my arm pits are super soft!

I've tried making my own and also buying several of the natural alternatives, but nothing works on my pits except antiperspirant. It's kind of a bummer since I really love the idea of making my own deodorant and using gentler ingredients.

I tried this for a while. It worked great, but i had to keep it in the fridge to get it to harden and it was ja pain. But it smelled so good! Now I just wipe down with witch hazel that I added some tea tree and grapefruit essential oils, then rub a tiny bit of baking soda on before it dries. I've heard of people using that crystal stuff too. I wish I could afford LaVanilla again. That stuff rocked. I make 90% of my beauty products because I love DIY, but that and the Pacifica soaps were my splurges. I think deodorant was my first DIY product. I had so much fun I couldn't stop! Have you tried other recipes yet.

I've made this and used it. I loved how it worked as a deodorant and the light coconut smell, but it left oil stains on all of my clothes and yellow marks on my white/cream colored shirts. I've switched back to plain old Secret, but when that's used up I'm going to move back to something aluminum free.

Edit: Also, it darkened my arm pits.

I made this a couple of weeks ago...used the same recipe.
It works really well, but there are a couple of caveats.

    1. You have to stir REALLY well and refrigerate immediately (at least I did, we were in the middle of a heat wave) because it can melt at room temp and you want to have all the cornstarch in complete suspension or you may run into a patch without enough to keep you somewhat dry.

    2. It only keeps you somewhat dry, not an antiperspirant but a deodorant

    3. It smells like anything you want it to smell like  I added Essential oils, Patchouli, Orange, Vetivert and Rose Absolute

I went to the drug store and purchased a couple of cheap deodorants, trial sized. Then I just emptied the containers & washed with soap & water. Easy peasy.

I used it at the gym...worked well for me , I didn't smell bad and all I smelled was my combination of EO's.

ETA: I never got any oily marks on my clothes but did end up with white marks if I dressed after applying. After getting my shirt on, I just made a quick pass, your skin melts a great deal of it on if you linger, so don't

I probably should mention I wear Tshirts not blouses for work.

Thanks for posting this! I just ran out of my Kiss My Face deo and the store I buy it at quit carrying it. I was about to order a 6 pack off of Amazon but was worried that it would start drying up or something by the time I used them up, so I will try this instead.

BTW I make my own laundry detergent and dish washing detergent off of recipes I found on the net and both work great. I never thought about making my own deo!
