Newbie Needs Advice : )

I need to lose weight and so far, it's been going really well. I'm 24, 5'7" and currently 188. (WOAH, did I really just put that on the internet??) I'd ultimately like to get down to right around 140. I may be happy with results before then but we'll see.

I've been going at it for one week today, working out 5x/week and burning around 300 calories each time. I've set MFP to lose 2lbs/wk and follow the recommendation to eat 1200 cal/day but I also eat back my exercise calories. I always try to stay around 100 calories under my daily goal just in case I was off on estimates.

I lost 5 lbs this week and I'm pretty pleased with the results even though a majority is probably water weight. I've tried to figure out TDEE and how much I should be eating, do I eat exercise calories? Do I eat less and up my intake when my weight loss slows? When do I take my pulse with the HRM? Too much fat? Too little protein? There are so many variables and to a newbie it's pretty overwhelming.

Any advice you can give would be awesome!

Just keep at it and you can adjust as you go. It's all overwhelming at first. As you get closer to your goal your losing will slow down and you may hit a plateau. The important thing is not letting this get to you and power through. Good luck!

Mmm; I'm going to put myself out on a fire-wire here but don't get too caught over calories! So many people make mistakes in focusing too much on calories that they lose aim of their initial goal.
The guide I ran by was to keep my meals of adequate, normal portion size and try to eat EVERYTHING. The main key is exercise, if you are going to be changing something - change the workout load :)
(This is just my personal experience...)
