Wifi at the gym

  • Mine has wi-fi.
I watch Netflix on cardio machines and stream music when lifting..
All gyms should have wi-fi..and that is coming from a guy who has worked out in dive gyms with rusted equipment and old sock smells. I enjoy the availability of streaming media without using up my data. Gym music and TVs always suck

When I go to the gym and do cardio I use something to pass the time and make the cardio more enjoyable. I usually have no interest in what is showing on the big screen tvs so I bring a book or watch something on my phone, and some cardio is a lot easier to do when not holding a book. I have an iPad that is wifi only, but my gym has no wifi.

Does anyone else's gym have wifi? Thoughts on whether this is something that a gym should provide?

my old gym had free wifi, which was nice for pandora. but in the cardio room they also had 3 flat screen tvs with remotes so if you got there first and got the remote you could watch whatever you wanted to. i loved that. i didnt have to watch the news or sports, i could watch like tosh.o if i wanted

If cardio is too boring, go lift. ;)

I usually do both, actually. I just like to have my mind engaged while I do cardio.

    me too.

    thats why i go outside

My gym does, so I can watch movies on my Kindle Fire. I'm a Prime member so I get a lot of stuff for free. But, I can also put my own movies and TV shows on it. When I'm doing cardio, I like to watch a movie which means I can do at least 120 minutes.

I've also read my book while I'm walking. It sure does pass the time, and I say if it helps you get it in, then do it! Yeah, it's a gym and not a library, but if given the choice I'd pick spending the time on my *kitten* watching a movie or reading a book. This way it's an incentive for me. I can read my book but only if I'm at the gym, or I can watch my movie if I'm at the gym.

It's helped tremendously, and I don't see myself changing that habit anytime soon. Walking out doors is great and all but where I live is in the country and touristy so my main road is unsafe and there's no sidewalks. The gym is what I've got to use and use it I shall. And no, I don't use it when I'm on the weight machines that'd be stupid.

So yeah, it's gym, it's not a library but I'm doing it on one cardio machine not during busy times and I'm not hurting a thing. And it frees up the TV for someone who want to watch something they want. I say it's a great situation all around.

I don't even bring my phone into the gym, but if I did I wouldn't use wifi.

I go to the Canada Games Centre in Halifax (Nova Scotia, Canada), and it does have wifi. Very convenient!, and makes working out that much easier. I stream music from CBC theme music sites: blues, rock and roll, classical, or what have you.

My gym does not but Staples (adjacent) does & the signal is way strong enough to reach.

I've used it for Pandora and to connect my Kindle to HBOGo and have HBO Series marathons on the treadmill.

I would love for them to have it available legit.

My gym has wifi. Because I have an iPad, not an iPhone, I use the wifi to track the last visit's weight on each machine and to sync up after cardio. That's about it. When I was starting out and losing, I would prop it up on the treadmill (at home), play streaming video from Amazon, and walk at an incline for an hour or two before bedtime. Got caught up on a lot of movies and TV series that way. But now I spend more time at the gym and I just listen to my own music stored on the iPad. I like audiobooks too, but only for walking.

Oh Gawd yes, this. So many times I've marveled at people plopping down on the strength equipment for 10-15-20 minutes to talk with various friends, play with their phones, whatever. It's hilarious... except when they're on the equipment I want to use.
