Good Evening Everyone!

My name is Josh and I am semi new to this site. I have been on a few times but never really used it. Today I decided to use this site to help track what I eat and see if I could lose some weight from eating a lot healthier and going to the gym. If you guys have any tips I would gladly welcome them. :)

My tip would be to be dead honest with the calories ^^ Also check out their smartphone app (Android and iOS I believe?) It was very useful for me, at least until some updates made it all slow and bugged for me, on top of that 30mb+ phone memory... But if you have a better phone than mine it should work just fine. Sometimes it's much easier to add stuff on the go, especially since the app shows you calories of food before you add them as well as lets you scan barcodes of things.
  • Hi Josh, welcome! My name is Corinne. I've found from my own experience to log everyday, regardless of what kind of day that you've had. Being accountable to ourselves is the first step in making lasting change. The data is only there for you to analyze and learn from. I discovered over the weekend that I could go to a fair type of event, eat there and still work inside of my daily calories. I had to adjust around it and increase my exercise. If I didn't log, I wouldn't know. Knowledge is power. Feel free to add me as a friend and you'll find me in your cheering section! Good luck on your journey!
  • Thanks Kuroi19 I do have the app on my phone and I certainly do know what your talking about when the app messes up and takes almost all the room on your phones storage space. I scan barcodes all the time and enter in food when it does not show up. I feel I enter everything pretty good. Some entries differ a few calories or what not compared to the actual packaging. But I am very honest and I am trying to eat healthier currently at a depressing and embarrassing weight of 326lbs. Drinking a homemade green smoothie a day as a meal and eating a lot of fresh fruits and veggies has me feeling great going into day three of my life style change.

well hello and welcome to the full MFP experience!!!! I found that logging in every day has helped me stay on track... I am always super excited to log in my workouts... i like seeing my total calories allowed number go up! I thought my firs at least 10 lbs would have just melted off since I decided that I was going to do better at working out and so on... well im 9 weeks in and have only actually lost 2lbs... but my clothes fit better and my legs feel tighter (love it) - be sure to keep track of your measurements that is very helpful especially when the scale wont budge but you feel better...
Good luck to you on your journey -
feel free to add me if you like I am just about always here... I partied Sunday and recovered Monday so my interaction was sparse :)

You'll find a lot of support within this community and a lot of good ideas (as well as some crazy folks, just like life). I, like others, log in daily and try to be honest. One aspect of being honest (with yourself) is to weigh and measure your food. It is astonishing how inaccurate the eye can be; I was guestimating a "serving" of peanut butter and upon weighing it found it to be TWO servings. The MFP food database is terrific, and I rarely find that a particular food isn't there. Log in, use the tools. Best of luck. Friend me if you want: I'm happy to offer ideas and support...

Hello, I am new here too, loving the control it is giving me. My tip is to make sure you drink the recommended 8 glasses of water. It makes a difference. You have the phone ap (invaluable for checking choices and preventing the forgotten sins that sit on your hips if not kept in check). Good luck and most important enjoy the triumphs and don't beat yourself up over the occasional slip.
