Doing Insanity and gaining weight! Help!

I'm a 23 year old female, 5'1 and around 125 pounds.
I'm at the end of the second week in the 2nd month of insanity but I'm not loosing weight like I hoped I would and instead gained around 3 pounds. My fitness improved a lot and my body shape also improved but not as much as I hoped it would. Why is that? I know muscle mass can make you gain weight but I don't feel like I gained all that much muscle and I used to do very light workouts before insanity so I thought that since I'm burning much more calories than I used to I should be def loose weight and not gain weight.
My diet is much healthier but I still eat some unhealthy food every now and then, but it's def much healthier than before. And I space my meals and everything. So what do you think is the problem? Or what should I do to increase the weight loss rate?

Thanks!

    Open your diary

Also, 5'1 @ 125lbs you are in the healthy range, are you sure it's ''weight'' you want to lose or do you want to reshape your body?
    They are two different things.

3lbs could be anything from water retention, PMS, periods and so on. Besides, you said your body changed, you should base your results on that and never the scale.
  • Well I want to reshape my body.. I still have some fat around my belly and hips that I want to get rid of

That will be the last to go. I don't know a ton about insanity, but I highly doubt you're gaining appreciable muscle mass. From what you explained, you're probably maintaining what you have while you lose fat. This will cause the scale to decrease slower than expected. Also water retained for muscle repair can make the scale increase a bit.

The best way to mark progress is with a tape measure, not a scale.

    This

Insanity is all cardio, you won't get much muscle from it.
The fat around your belly and hips will decrease as your overall fat% drops.

It would help to see your diary really, we could have a look at your calories/macros
  • I just took my measures and it appears that I did loose some inches off my waist and hips and I did drop a size since when I started (i was around 123lbs)... So I guess this is good! I'm used to measuring myself with the scale not with the meter tape hehe

Thank you for your help :)

The second month of Insanity is more physical (If you can believe that) and longer in time than the first... water is retained in your muscle.. no muscle gain.. your probably not eating enough for that.

I also gained #3 the first month of insanity. I think lost a total of #3 by the end of day 72 (I just kept on going) but I did lose inches- and gained A LOT if endurance!! I can do other programs with ease that I found hard to do prior to doing insanity.
  • I lost weight when I did Insanity. Got stress fracture in my foot, off of work for 8 weeks gained it all back.
