Going over calories

I've been using MFP for about 2 weeks now. Atleast one day per week I use almost twice my calorie allowance, however, over the next 2days I would earn them back through exercise.

I wondered if this is a normal way of going about things and if others do it as well? Obviously it would be better if I ate within my allowance all days per week but I have to allow myself one 'cheat' day so I dont feel deprived. Being good all the time doesnt work for me.

First of all, if your user name is after the awesome atari game, you win the internets. (and if it's not, then strange!)

Secondly, if it works better for you to have a weekly defecit rather than a daily one, then why not? As long as your defecit for the week is 3500cals for example, your weight loss should be 1lb.

Though I would be inclined to look at WHY you're going so much over, as it may be an indicator that you're not getting into sustainable habits. Yesterday I did a double calorie day - but then I also walked for 7 hours so that levelled it out, plus it was the first time in ages I had gone over by that much - when I first started on mfp, I'd do that once a week easy, so my habits have changed over time so that the freqency of these pigouts is much more in line with sustainable weight loss.

There are some diets that I've heard of, which actually promote this kind of eating I believe. Or basically, an intentional fluctuation in calorie intake.

    5:2 I believe is one.

I lost weight on a diet that called for 1 load day, 6 days on and 1 day off. Ultimately, I stopped going nuts on the load day because it seemed counterproductive. Would gain and have to work 2 days to get back to where I was before the load day.
  • Haha yeh it's the atari game but I just like llamas anyway. The reason I go over my limit is solely due to alcohol. Ive not lost a single pound yet after 2 weeks. I appear to be doing everything right so Im hoping if I just keep going with it SOMETHING will have changed for the better lol
