So I want to start my father on Stronglifts, but he has a bad back, and definitely has bad knees (surgery on both). I'm not worried about the back so much as the knees.

He is still mobile enough to do the full range of motion required by the basic compound lifts, but he CANNOT risk hurting himself. His job is very demanding and he is on his feet quite a bit, travels a lot, etc...

Anyone here with similar knee issues, who squats and deadlifts?

I was practically crippled by knee pain; lifting heavy gave me my life back. So I say, get him to a licensed trainer or a physical therapist. Don't gamble his job and mobility on what strangers on the Internet tell you.

Agreed I have severely bad knee's (multiple knee's cleanout's 10+ years of knee injections, no cartilage left in either knee or meniscus, and a torn ACL in my left knee...) I exercise with custom fitted DonJoy braces but have done all of this through the wellness center through our local hospital and have worked with my Physical therapist girls for the last 4 years... I do leg press, leg curls (not to 90 degree's but do full extension) but as of now No Go on Squats... I am 43 and am facing 2 knee replacements but we are trying to buy me as much time between now and then that we can.... PT is the way to go.....
