    Thanks for giving blood.

Don't let this bother you. One day is one day. It is nothing in the grand scheme of things and you'll do yourself a lot more harm stressing over this than simply forgetting it happened.

Anybody have any idea how many calories it takes to manufacture a pint of blood? If so, you could sort of call that exercise, though your body won't replace all that blood today - it will take a few days.

eat a normal dinner. if anything, i'd eat MORE for dinner given the fact that you almost passed out.

take a victory in the fact that you gave blood & will help someone, and get back to normal tomorrow :)

It's like 500 calories over the course of a month to replenish white blood cells. So like 17 extra calories being burned every day at most.

Enjoy the fact that you helped somebody who really needs it AND you get free cookies! I call that a win-win.

Who cares about 1 day of extra cals. I agree with Jess - you still need to have a good supper tonight to help your energy level.

If this was the first or second time you gave blood, don't be too upset. It's completely normal to feel that way. Your body has a natural reaction to fight the loss of blood. For me, the third time I donated, it didn't bother me at all. In fact, I look forward to it now because it means I get time to relax with my feet up and no little ones jumping on me. And, of course, FREE COOKIES!!

Good job - be proud of yourself.

I never concern myself with the calories from the cookies and sometimes juice after giving blood. You needed it and you need to eat a proper dinner. Never beat yourself up over something like that. You are doing a good thing and having a cookie or two won't destroy the progress you have made. Relax. Have a nice dinner and think of the person who will receive your blood.

    Good for you donating blood!

Just move on. You can't undo what has already been eaten. In the big picture it is not a big deal.

I can't begin to comprehend your experience. I've been donating blood for years and never have had a problem. I never eat a thing afterward (no need for most people) though I always make sure to eat a good meal before I donate & also drink plenty of water.

You DO need to eat a proper dinner. You can't treat today like a normal day. You just gave blood. You need CALORIES. And you need to not do any strenuous exercise.

You ate 800 calories worth of cookies?!

I'm so jealous! My blood people only give me like 300 cals worth of crap. I'm gonna complain.
  • Yay for donating. My son was a recipient of blood as a baby and would not be here if not for that. I wouldn't worry about it. Tomorrow is a new day... :)
  • No working out after donating blood! It's on the No No List!

Its ok to give yourself a pass day today, you saved 3 lives :)

I give blood regularly. They tell you when you give to drink plenty of extra fluids and eat heartily to help keep up your strength. Also tell you to take it easy when it comes to exerting yourself the rest of the day.

I can't believe you keep donating! I almost passed out after donating, once, and I couldn't bring myself to try again. I was too freaked out. Good for you!

There's probably a good reason why you almost passed out - had you recently finished exercising; didn't have enough liquids; were hungry....?? Honestly, your body will accept donating blood. Feeling a little light-headed (and even almost passing out) the first or second time is not that rare. It gets very easy, and doesn't cause any issues as you continue. Just remember not to exert yourself before or after donating blood, drink lots of liquids and don't let yourself get really hungry.

You really should try it again. Let the nurses know you had a rough time before when donating and are a little scared. They'll be sure to stay right with you and will make you feel comfortable. If there's a tv in the room, focus on that, or bring a magazine to flip through (one-handed!!) to keep your mind occupied.

    Good luck!!
