I need some advice from some experienced dieters. So here are my stats- I'm 18, 5 ft tall, started out at 143 lbs., and currently at 130. I'm aiming for 118, but not sure yet.
Now, I've been eating 1200 calories a day for the last 10 weeks, thus losing around 1 pound a week. Before you attack me for eating this little, remember that I'm barely 5 ft.
My problem is that I got my period 5 weeks ago, and it hasn't stopped since!! I've also been very moody and tired. Do any of you think the weight loss has anything to do with that? How many calories do you think I need to eat? By the way, my TDEE is 1784. Thanks in advance!

Hey there my only advice would be is maybe talk to a doc 5 weeks is a long time to have your period , I no going on the pill etc can effect this and im sure deit can as well but i dont think as long as your eatting healthy things and enought for your body it would have this affect on your body Altho im only new to this my self and im far from being a doctor but as a women if it was me i would be heading off to my doctor to make sure everythings ok
As for the how much do you think i should eat im also just under 5ft tall and 25yrs im 76kgs or (150lbs? i think), I eat 1200 cal (yip haters r going to hate) BUT i eat all my excise cals back and I full my day with fresh fruit veges and salad so im not hungery and i always net as close to 1200 as i can some times a few cal under some times a few cal over and ive been lossing weight my TDEE is 1458, i think you just need to try and do whats right for you and your body no two bodys are the same what works for me isn't going to work for some 6ft male that runs miles every day
I hope your feeling better soon having your period for 5 weeks would make the best of us moody and grumpy!!0 -

You must see your gyn as soon as possible. It may be totally unrelated to your eating or weightloss but you may be anemic by now. Please make an appointment and when you make it, tell the receptionist that you've been bleeding for 5 weeks so she can get you in immediately!
ETA-I looked at your diary for about a week or so and your calories are way too low!!!
I thought you said you were eating at least 1200 and some exercise calories. What you are eating is not enough to sustain you nutritionally and you are doing major harm to your body!!!!0 -
When I was younger I had messed up periods like 5 months with out then 3 months with the Dr gave me meds to stop the bleeding then I had to take birth control to keep it regular. After I had my kids it straightened out in its own0

I am sorry to hear this. I always have had heavy, long periods and it can be so hard to deal with. I agree with the above poster-you should see a family doctor or gynecologist about this...there are plenty out there who are low cost, especially for young people such as yourself.
My second suggestion is this; take a look at not only the calories in your diet but also the micronutrient values in it. Do you eat meat? Go have a steak, or some liver. After suffering for nearly two decades with heavy periods I started taking an iron supplement. Instead of five heavy days I'm done to only one. Maybe you are now deficient. How much you need may vary. If you are already taking a multivitamin with iron, maybe take some more, OR eat extra iron rich foods-just about any meat and some vegetables. The iron in meat is more readily absorbed into your body it's called heme iron.
I can understand the reasons for not seeing a doctor, believe me! This could really be something very easy to fix, or more serious. But you won't know until you see someone who know better than we do (which really isn't very much). Eat the cost and find out for sure!
Please let us know how it goes!0
