I'm currently 171lbs and 5'4, female. How many calories will I burn per workout doing month 1 of Insanity workouts?

It depends on how hard you push yourself and whether you take breaks or push through. I usually burn about 350-500 a workout. A heart rate monitor will be a good investment for you0

I don't have the same stats as you, and I'd highly recommend getting a heart rate monitor to track your own calorie burn, but when I did Insanity I burned anywhere between 500 and 600 calories in the first month....I would caution you not to go off of what other people burn though, as it may be higher than what you actually burn, which can lead to your net calories not being accurate.0

The calories burned are too varied to answer your question with any accuracy. It all depends on your own fitness level, your ability to push yourself, weight, resting heart rate, age, etc., etc.. I would also strongly suggest you invest in a HRM with chest strap, so you will get a more accurate idea of your calorie burn.0

The thread topic just made me laugh! If one didn't know insanity was a workout, it just sounds funny! How many calories do you burn being crazy?! LOL! :laugh:0

Second on getting a heart rate monitor. My burns ranged from 400 during the fit test to 1400 during the Max Cardio Circuit and Cardio Abs workout. You can log it as circuit training in the MFP database if you don't have a HRM, but the monitor will give you much more accurate results.0

a HRM does not do well with circut training unfortunately....
with the varied exercises it is best to log based on MFP database.0 -

For most circuit training, I would agree with you, but Insanity is closer to a sustained, steady state cardio workout than most circuit training. With the exception of a few 30 second breaks, you are pushing at high intensity the whole workout. I found that the calories I was getting based on the HRM burns matched the estimated calories I should be eating according to the diet plan fairly well. If I had used the estimates for circuit training on MFP, I would have been hangry and definitely wouldn't have had the energy to keep up with the workouts.0
