Has anyone else ditched the scales for the measuring tape ?

The scale has been very kind to me over the last 8 months and had no frustration with it , until i started lifting weights . My weight has gone up 3lbs and goes down again , then back up but no more than 3 lbs . I'm fine tuning my diet too just to be on safe side and ive decided to stick to measuring and photo's instead of relying on the scale . Will prob way once a month now , if i do at all .
Are there any others in the same boat as me and have decided to trade in the scales for measuring ?

    Nope I like to see those scales go down, and I go by what clothes fit rather than measuring myself.

    i would have thought clothes fitting and measuring where basically the same ?? As oppose to measuring and weighing .

    Yep! Measuring tape and mirror is enough for me :) Occasionally get weighed at the gym but don't pay too much attention - unless I've gained like a stone...

    I use the scale at the gym once in a while.

    Ditched my own scale a loooooong time ago :flowerforyou:
  • I do! :) If I weigh myself consistently I'll get stressed out about gaining. I'll weigh myself once in awhile, but other than I don't really pay too much attention to the scale. I prefer to measure :)

    my two cents?

    If the scale is getting you down and you are working out and doing the right things; i say don't weigh. That is very different from binge eating and going off plan and not weighing. You know you're doing it right and you're getting fit. Trust yourself and be kind to yourself. Measure and go by how your clothes fit until you want to get on the scale.

    Yah I don't own a scale...I still check periodically at work (in the gym) but prefer measuring tape.

    I do both. When I'm getting frustrated with lack of weight loss I usually break out the tape and see that I'm still getting smaller.

    I do this: Before I step on the scale or measure anything, I look at myself in the mirror so that I can see I am a fit and healthy person just as I am. Then, all the measurements have little effect on my self esteem.

    I used to be one of those people who stepped on the scale every day - rejoicing when I lost one pound and walking around depressed when I gained one. It was not healthy mentally and I didn't treat my body very well as a consequence. I find I still like to know those numbers, but I need to build myself up a bit first so I know that it's just a number.

    I still weigh daily out of habit, and because I think it's fascinating to see how my body can fluctuate by several pounds throughout the week - but I gauge my progress by the measuring tape and progress photos, and how my clothes fit.

    During about a six month period my weight on the scale went up and down the same 2-3 lbs, but during that time I dropped a full pants size, losing inches and fat. That's when I realized the scale can be a dirty little liar and is not to be trusted. :tongue:

    I weigh myself pretty often. I take measurements once a month. I also go by what I see in the mirror and compare to photos I take every month. Mostly I care about how I feel, how my clothes fit day to day. The other tools are helpful, though.

    I need both the scales and the measuring tape. The scales keep me in check. The measuring tape approach can often be frustrating for me - I'll see from the scales that I've put on some weight, and double-check with the measuring tape to see that I haven't. So that's fine. But, I can have big drops in scale weight, where my measurements don't change at all. In fact, for me, it's the scales that show I'm losing more often than the measuring tape.

    I would like to get to a point where I only weigh myself once a month...but I don't think I'm there yet.

    What I mean is being able to fit into an old pair of jeans that were way too tight before. That means more to me than inches as I can actually see and feel the weight has come off.

    I still use the scale, but I don't trust it exclusively. I mostly use a tape measure, but I need to know my weight in order to estimate my body fat based on the measurements. I weight/measure weekly just to keep an eye on things.
