I am getting ready to run my first 5K. I've always seen that carb loading the night before is recommended. I've also seen just as much info saying it's unnecessary. Any advice?

  • For a 5k, it is not really all that beneficial. 10K's on up, yes.
  • Even on a short run I would still do it!! maybe not to the extreme as a longer distance run, but if you ate a pasta dish for dinner the night before it will help with your energy! But LOADING isn't necessary! Good luck with the 5K, if it helps it's only like 3 ish miles :)

I agree with the above comments. It really is pointless to carbo load for a mere 5k, but eating a meal with plenty of carbs the night before should give you a helping hand.
  • ^^yeah, what they said.
I ran the Terry Fox 10K last weekend. Pasta for dinner the night before, WW bagel with some peanut butter a few hours before. Flew through the run, felt great.
But I'm no nutritionist, do what feels right for you.
