With dumbbells. Iam in need of a bench to do so. Is there anything of "common" around most houses I can use till I get an actual bench? Thanks guys/gals.

An alternative is to lay on the floor as place two pillows beside your shoulders, this way when you bench, you won't go too low.0

Sounds silly, but you can actually do those on the floor. Keep your arms straight and bring down all the way parallel to the floor and then back up to where the dumbells touch!0

When I was young (and broke) I used an older narrow coffee table0

IMO I don't think it would make such a difference in gains whether or not you stretch it out little more. Truth is. you might even end up ripping a muscle. If you got enough books, you could stack them up an make a mini bench. LOL0

Here's a link showing DB Flys and a few other chest exercises done on the floor.

I agree!
Stretching the arms all the way down and below the shoulder joint, specially with heavy weights may damage your rotator cuff or even rip pectorals muscles. It doesn't matter if you use the bench or the floor, just be careful and control your movements. No need to overextend to get results.0
