Work/diet balance

How do you diet when working around a team used to drinking and socialising?

I'm struggling to keep to calories without being a bore??

All advice welcome.

no law says it has to be alcohol. just find something you enjoy that doesn't have cals in it.

I drink vodka and diet coke or you can get a vodka and water and add a little crystal light to it...... clear rum is also not that bad for you either!

Thanks both. Vodka sounds good and yes I need to be stronger on the alcohol front! So difficult when everyone around you is drinking!

Clear rum, not tried, so perhaps one for next time. When I drink I get bad on the munchies!!

There are fewer calories in light beers. Or adjust your calorie intake for the day to account for the more you'll get with drinks, such as cutting snacks or sodas or adding in more exercise. Plus, if you're going to somewhere with dancing, that'll burn calories and is certainly not being a bore! :)

Not sure if you are a beer drinker, but there is MGD Light. 12oz, 2.4g carbs, 64 calories.

Other than that, pretty much all liquer is going to come from some fruit making it sugar-tastic.

However, wine is not too bad. Beringer white zinfendel is only 80 calories for 4oz (1/2 cup), which is pretty much the standard size that bars and restaurants will serve.

My advice is if you like to drink alchohol, research your favorite drinks or common drinks people have. Plan your calories around your social gatherings. Most importantly, play the "drink slow talk much" game. It will save you money and you can still have an awesome time without worrying about your diet.

My other comment is on food. Bar food is a killer...try and find peanuts, or just make sure you eat a filling meal before you go out so you won't feel munchy. And as with drinking, "talk more eat less."

I'm just a bore!!!!  Makes life waaay easier!!!!

In seriousness.... if you would like to have some alcohol, rotate between alcoholic and then water or soda the next round.... by the time everyone else had a few they'll NEVER notice!!! :drinker:

Or say you are driving (if you do of course!!!!)

Or that you are on medication you can't drink with??????

Think how much clearer your head will be and ready for a run/ the gym/ a swim etc etc.....

Good points and I will certainly try them out!

One week in and I'm struggling. Ordered a size smaller skirt so pressure on. End up convincing myself to start again tomorrow!

Driving a fab excuse.....will try that next time!

Anyone know about Acai Berry. Any good? Supposed to increase metabolic rate! Desperate.... Yes.... Sorry...

I LOVE wine...and when I know I am going to "have" to drink (ok twist my arm) I go with a wine spritzer. Red or white wine with 1/2 the glass filled with Fresca... i know how it sounds, prior to this I HATED Fresca, but its actually REALLY good together and LESS then 1/2 the cals then one glass of wine, as the Fresca has 0 cals. Toss in some fruit and you have a Sangria.
Other then that if I know its going to be a "bad" night I work out in the am and burn 200-300 cals to allow for it... :drinker:

Trust me - I know! My life revolved around drinking. You can still be at the bar or be out socializing with out drinking. Diet Tonic with a lime is what I do. Or water with a lemon.

Still 'looks' like you're having a drink.
    Sometimes it makes it easier!

    Good Luck!

I'm the boring one. I will not go to parties and if I do I bring my own drink, just one, a gin and diet tonic :)

I just make sure to order a water as soon as I get there. If they ask, just tell them you're trying to cut back - anyone can respect that - and sip your water alllll night. If I drink a water while out with people drinking, I'll usually end up drinking close to 40 oz. of water just being there and that's great for you!!
