Hello,
I started on this site awhile ago, did a great go of it. Changed everythiing i was doing wrong, went from 140 to 110, to 115, to 112,
Now After some time passed, I have gone back to some of my old habbits, and am now back to 126 and very un happy,
I am lookinig to get back the results I had when I first started,I am a P.S.W so im on my feet often with work, mostly running around from room to room, getting this or that and taking clients here or there and doing what they need done for them but it doesnt seem to affect mym weight at all, I am not losing any weight by my job.
I have 8 flights of stairs in my building, and miles of sidewalk to jog on,
I have an excercise bike as well, but it didnt seem to do a thing for me either,
I was hoping to get some help in where to start for jogging, I have no experience in jogging,And would like to start doing this as I have heard it is great for weight loss, also , is there anything I could do with a routine for the stairs I have in my building?
any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated,
Thank you in Advance

Try a running app like C25K which uses a run/walk interval program to prepare you for running a 5K! Do not just start running... it's discouraging...so the app puts in walk breaks that shorten as the weeks go by. Definitely walk those stairs of yours whenever you can... should be great for getting the heart rate going! You can do this!0

I agree with Annemama. The C25K app is great!0

If you want something a little more fun with a story behind it, I love the Zombies, Run! series for Android/iPod. They have a Zombies Run 5K training app, that is expertly done and gets you in shape for running, and as you are running/walking takes you through a post-apocalyptic story. Once you are hooked, the Zombies, Run 2 app will keep you going with tons more stories. I absolutely am crazy for this app since it makes my runs go by so quickly, and I look forward to the next installment of the story. In the regular app, they even do interval drills by having you outrun a zombie horde. Genius. Good Luck!0

C25k would be the best bet or investing in a program like insanity or P90X?
Are your calorie intake reflected in you BMR?0 -

That sounds bloody awesome!
Stupid leg of mine! :grumble:
(Long story short: had blood clots, leg swells with a decent pace walk after 30 seconds, so I can only go slowly. Dr and specialist said there shouldn't be anything wrong and yet....it still happens. I can run for like 30 seconds before my leg cramps big time.) Maybe it will stop one day so I can do this!0 -
I would suggest to make the time and effort like you did in the beginning. Just those little strides towards healthier choices. Pack a healthy lunch. Walk for 10 mins of lunch. Squeeze in cardio in the AM or before bed. You can do it. "We fall down, but we get up"0

Clarification: Jogging/Running is NOT great for weight loss.
Eating fewer calories than you burn is great for weight loss.
If you want to eat the same things you're eating today, but still lose weight, then you need to burn more calories. To do that, you can run. And you need to run a LOT, every day.
At 126 pounds, You can run more than 1 kilometer on the energy in one tablespoon of peanut butter... which makes it so EASY to "erase" all of your exercise calories by eating a little snack.
Focus first on what you're eating. Once you get that problem solved, turn to exercise to improve your fitness.
Just my humble opinion. Congrats on your initial loss and I hope you can "find your way back."0 -
well done for coming back to it - that's a great first step! and you're in the great position that you know that physically your body can do this, it's done so before ... I like outdoor stuff and my personal trick is to compare weight loss with climbing a mountain as when you get to the goal, the summit, you're only half-way there as you still have to get all the way back down which often takes more effort .. I am struggling to lose the last few pounds but for me, that's just fine because I also plan to treat maintenance as project that I monitor and put as much effort into as I did with the original weight loss, because if I didn't have a habit of pounds sneaking up on me I wouldn't be on here! so taking time over the last few pounds is teaching me good habits to last a lifetime, there's no rush
good luck, you can do it, and don't see it as re-treading an old path but that being aware of what your body likes to feel good is the way you plan to live your life in future0 -

This. 80% of weight loss is in the kitchen. You can't work out a bad diet.0 -
I am in the same boat - lost, maintained for 9 months and in May, stopped my routine and on came some lbs. I have stopped the gaining and am back on routine. I find that weighing myself every morning - yes, it keeps me from shoving things into my mouth. I log onto MFP and put in weight, food and exercise for day. I followed this and lost. Once I stopped, I gained.
I know the weighing every day is controversial. I watch the trend over time versus the absolute number. I love to see it go down or stay the same but... you cannot get depressed if it goes up and you are following your plan. This keeps me honest and helps stop eating too much or things I know I should not eat.0 -

You say that you are unhappy. Yet you are at a healthy weight for a woman 5-foot-2 or taller. This is a red flag that your problem is something other than a need to lose weight. But exercise still might be the answer. It releases endorphins and relieves stress. Exercise improves your mood. Since you don't need to lose weight, I would recommend that you try weight training/bodybuilding with the addition of some light cardio. And just try to eat at maintenance.
As for where to job, anywhere is the answer. You can jog in place in the living room, jog around the house, around the block, on a running track at a local high school, in a gym, on a treadmill. It seems odd that you have no experience with jogging. I assume that you mean that you have limited experience. Because my kids are 10 and 8, and they jog for PE all the time.0 -

The app is named, "Zombies, Run!" and "Zombies, Run! 5k Training" from the company Six to Start. Available in your favorite app store. Best works with a GPS enabled device, as it tracks your speed to make sure you get away from the zombies... or not.0 -
You aren't really overweight at 112 or 115. I'd suggest focusing on fitness. Toning up, rather than slimming down. Do both strenghth training and cardio. Make sure you eat enough calories and protein to prevent muscle loss. Eat at maintenance or a very small deficit. This will be your best bet to lose fat and inches.0

Thanks, I think I am going to give it a try. If it doesn't work out and the zombies get me.......you know why I never made it back on here!0
