Loose Skin After Massive Loss

I'm curious how many of you are dealing with this. I was going to go buy a new wardrobe when I hit my goal. Now, it looks like I'll be having a bit of plastic surgery in order to remove this extra skin. I did everything right. It took me 2 years to loose 109 pounds. Sometimes there is just no way to avoid the extra skin.

Does anybody have any idea how to go about with this procedure? I'm more interested in pricing and payment information such as do I pay for it all at once or if there is even an option for a payment plan. Anything you guys know would be fantastic even if it's some kind of lotion to help tighten (done some research and haven't found anything that is clinically proven yet and I don't do any fad trends/diets).

I have been using coffee grounds everyday as a body scrub for the last 3 months. it has help but I did not have a massive amont due to losing it slowly just like you did.

You should probably talk to your doctor about how long to wait before being sure there will be no improvement. Then ask for a referral to a plastic surgeon so you can get the pricing, payment info, etc.

losing the weight slowly can help minimize the appearance of loose skin, but with many people there is simply too much skin and it must be removed. I have one friend who has had the procedure (after losing over 300 lbs the old fashioned way!) and I've seen quite a few specials about it on TV. IMHO, your best bet is to just get a referral from your primary doc and go see a specialist. They are the experts and can steer you in the right direction. Depending on your insurance plan, you may actually be able to get it partially or wholly covered. Good luck!

I've had two of the reconstructive post weight loss surgeries. My suggestion is to find a chiropractor that will write a letter to your insurance company saying that the excess skin hang is giving you problems with your back/neck/spine/joints that will cause even more of a health issue in the future and that although you've been trying to fix these by going to a chiropractor, it hasn't worked and the surgery is necessary.

Honestly, it depends on your surgeon the price though. My lower body was about 25K and insurance covered 20K or so. My upper body was about 20K and insurance covered about 12K. It's frustrating, but most surgeons have payment plans.

I'd be more than happy to talk about these surgeries more.

Keep in mind that some plastic surgeons specialize in post weight loss surgery. I also got mine from a doctor on the Upper East Side of Manhattan where everything is more expensive - and I can't say that I'm COMPLETELY happy with the results, but that's mostly because I've gained some weight back, and I lost my weight thanks to bariatric surgery.
