Final Destination Complex...

Does anyone else have, what I call "Final Destination Complex" - where you imagine the craziest way that a certain situation could go wrong and end up killing you?

For example, while swimming, I dropped my goggles and they landed on the vent, I imagined them getting stuck, me swimmiing down to get them and getting caught up and sucked down.

or the guy sat opposite me, his desk fan is making a strange noise, so I am picturing the blades shooting off, flying across the room and decapitating someone...

Totally normal right? :blushing: if you do this, please share and make me feel a little less morbib!

Ugh. I wish I could say I didn't think this way, but I totally do. I hate getting stuck in traffic on a bridge because I imagine the bridge breaking and me crashing to my death. I'm nervous about leaving ceiling fans on, especially while I sleep, because I imagine them going so fast that they fly off the ceiling and cut me to shreds in my bed. I hate trains because I imagine them derailing and skidding uncontrollably towards me until it runs me over (this is completely from the train scene in Final Destination). I imagine awful things, and I completely blame it on the Final Destination movies.

I definitely think of some horrible situations sometimes but it's because I'm a pessimistic over thinker.:grumble:

me too. but any truck with stuff that is "supposed to be" safely tied down. I imagine being impaled when they slam on brakes and their load goes through my windshield.

  • I do that all the time!!! haha..Mainly big rigs and trucks that have metal poles in the back that can impale you...but that started after I was hit by a big rig...I still believe I will die because of a big rig. lol

Yes, but it's mostly horrible ways for people who annoy me to die.

Yes. If I had candles burning then I need to double check at night to make sure I didn't forget to blow one out and have the house burn down while I sleep.

I thought I was the only one who did this! I have been doing it since I was a kid, too. I used to picture my bus rolling down a really steep incline as it was going around a corner. I hated that bus ride.

Yes, but I have PTSD...it's called "hypervigilance". I've never seen any of the sequels to Final Destination though, sounds like that's a good thing lol

Hate bridges, especially the ones you can feel sway. And I always get freaked out when I am stopped either on or under and overpass thinking it is either going to fall (bridge like) with me on it or on top of me. Turbo prop airplanes, always afraid one of the props will fly off and cut the plane in half. Yes, I am afraid of heights.

I do this all the time.

But then again, I'm a Project Manager in Construction, and w're supposed to do it. It's called Risk Assessment.

"If I leave that ladder there, then a little kid *could* escape from it's mother, climb the ladder, onto the scaffolding, run along the boards, pick up the hammer and drop it on someone's head, if they had got lost on the way to town and walked into my site and had accidentally jumped over that 3 foot wide trench....."

They're supposed to sway. If they didn't they would crack. And you *really* don't want that to happen!

That's it, I am no longer blaming the movies, but the years of risk assesments my job has forced me to do! Genius!!

I am so glad it isn't just me though!
