Hi

I am a 3yr thyroid cancer survivor and have been on the weight loss journey for some time. Before being diagnosed I was doing fairly well with my weight loss (slow and steady) but last summer I went off track and gained all of it back and then some. I am back and determined to lose the weight for myself and my health. I have been trying various things to see what works and it looks like high protein and calorie counting seems to be working slow but working. It is frustrating when you see others around you losing 3-4 pounds and I am losing 1 a week. however I keep reminding myself it is the slow and steady that will win the race.

I am always looking to meet others in the same boat and compare notes.

1lbs a week is still better than gaining weight, good luck and try pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone!

I'm so sorry that you had cancer! I just have hypothyroid. I find it hard to lose weight. Even when doing a cleanse I don't lose the same as other people. You're not alone. My weight goes really slowly too. Just keep at it, and you're right! Slow and steady does win the race! Great job again for beating thyroid cancer!!

  • Hello,
I'm a 3 year Thyroid Cancer survivor. Before my thyroid was removed in 2010, I had no problem maintaining a healthy weight. Now I have 60 pounds to lose. I gain just looking at food now. Ha, Ha. I have been gaining the last few months and ready to take my life back and get healthy again. Congratulation on losing a pound a week. I know it's frustrating but at least not gaining a pound a week :)

I was just diagnosed with Multifocal papillary carcinoma of the thyroid two weeks ago  I had Hodgkins Lymphoma 25 years ago and radiation to my neck/chest and it has caused this cancer to crop up. They took my thyroid out 2 weeks ago and now taking me to super hypothyroid status. They told me I will feel like I have been "hit by a bus" by the time this is over. I am to start the low-iodine diet in 2 weeks and then about 3 weeks later, they will give me the radioactive iodine pill to kill the cancer cells. I went to the thyca.org site to look at the low iodine cookbook and it is so discouraging because of how limited our eating is. I don't cook a whole lot because it's just myself. Did you all do the low iodine diet and if so did you find a good bread? It shows some that you have to make but I have heard they aren't real good. I will most definitily miss my string cheese, glucerna shakes, etc as none of that is allowed. I have done really well on my weight until this cropped up and now have gained 10 lbs. I am glad to find others who have gone through it.
  • Hi! I'm so glad to find this site. I just turned 46 and am also a thyroid cancer survivor of 19 years. Prior to this I was always in a size 3 and 5...now I'm lucky to get in a cute 16. Due to the nature of our thyroid having been cancerous we cannot take the meds that other hypothyroid 'customers' do for fear of bring back the cancer...does anyone have any suggestions for staving off the hunger???? I fight it all the time. I cook fresh foods and do not eat fast food, no sodas, little bread and sugars but I'm still not able to lose...Oh I can gain though...you bet. lol Help...please. :)
