This sounds like my thread. I'm 45, not menopause yet; actually still have bad cramps periods every 28 days that last about 7-8 days cause I'm on a blood thinner, Coumadin. I've done many diets over the years and have gotten down to 170 pounds a few times, but have gone back up to as high as 240 several times. I've had cancer and beat that. Two years ago they thought it came back and after a few different biopsies in three different areas and a PET scan it was blood clots which caused two blood vessels to burst and my legs to balloon up with the clots. I've had several bulging discs in my back which makes most exercise difficult. I've had shots in my back and then this Feb I was one in a million who got bacterial meningitis for my shot. I was on 4 antibiotics and lots of pain medicine and developed severe migraines which I never had. Sub consequently I had to start taking depacote for the migraines; a medicine known for weight gain. And was shocked in July when I went for my checkup and was 262 pounds.
I tried as hard as I could to lose weight on my own and lost 5 pound in two months. But this week I started My Fitness Pal, Shakeology, Slim N Six at a VERY low speed and partnering with my husband on our meals and counting cals since he's running the NY marathon ( his 11 th) marathon and is watching his food closely and would still like to lose 10 more pounds while training.
I'm also originally from NY; Staten Island and now live in St Louis so would be nice to Lise some weight before we go back home in Nov and see family.
I'd like to lose 100 pounds in one year and overcome as many of my health issues so I can eliminate some of my medicines and work out without pain !!!
Please feel free to offer any thoughts, tips, ideas you may have fir me!!!
Thank you in advance!!!
And good luck to everyone else.0 -
There are some seriously AMAZING success stories here!!!!!! I'll be 44 in December and I have recently lost 42lbs so far. I am in the process, after this week, of going to maintenance and focusing on toning and building muscle for 6 weeks and then I will go on Round 2 of overhauling my eating again and hopefully dropping another maybe 30 pounds or more before I have to cycle back into maintenance. This isn't drastic but it's a routine that is working for me for the first time in my life!!!!! I am STRICT on my eating and eat only what is on my eating plan at whatever phase I'm in. So after this 6 weeks of maintenance is over (around mid-October), I'll be back kicking butt and dropping weight again. I should hopefully be in ONE-derland by Halloween (for the first time in 13 years)0

I'm 50 years old and joined mfp just this month. I want to lose 65lbs. to start, but really should lose more like 115lbs. I have been overweight most of my life and quite sedentary. I found mfp by searching for a free weight loss tracker. So far I really like it. I apparently have not been eating enough calories, so logging everything I eat has been eye opening. I have been walking and using an eliptical trainer for exercise. I could use some encouragement too. thanks. C.0

I like that this is such an active thread!! I can't believe how many more posts there have been since I posted this am. For those that have already lost 30 or 40 + pounds, what tips do you have. I'm learning hiw much I've messed up my metabolism by doing diets where I eat less than 1,000 cals or no carbs and lose 20-40 pounds quickly, but then slowly slip back and put that on plus ten more each time. So I see I need to actually eat 1400-1580 cals per day of a balanced diet and will slowly lose 1-1.5 pounds each week.
Other ideas???0 -
Great to know there is someone else out here just like me. I just joined recently, haven't seen any weight loss yet, feeling a bit discouraged. Didn't track at all last week, hard to get motovated.0

I would very much like to have a friend on my journey as well. I am not grossly obease, but I am obease according to the charts. I weighed in at my heaviest I was 224, I am down to 209 lbs all by myself I lost 14 lbs I am crazy happy. I am 54, married. Disabeled and trying to get my life back together. I sure could use a fitness friend.:bigsmile:0

Well, I'm 58, and have over 100 lbs to lose. I joined mfp in June I think and almost immediately joined a 10 week slim down club. I'm happy to say it kept me mostly on the straight and narrow over the summer. Weekends are harder, camping with friends and having a few drinks my will power went out the window, but not completely. I'm down 20 odd lbs I think. Going on a month vacation in 2 weeks and eating in restaurants for the entire time will likely do me in, but for now.....I'm going to do my best.
I find that tracking my foods is the best way to lose....even when you go off course....write it down....be accountable.....WE CAN DO THIS......
Please feel free to add me as a friend. I log in daily...in fact several times a day......The more the merrier they say....LOL
Oh, and I live near Edmonton, Alberta, Canada0 -
Hi - Please add me. I will turn 50 in one year and am committed to loosing 50 lbs before I turn 50. I am good at recording my food during the week, but then end up blowing it every weekend.0
